(( Corridor, New Hope ))

The commander knocked. They waited a second, two. No answer came from the other side of the door.

Jovenan: Can we open it?

The engineer swiftly scanned the surrounding wall near the door.

Imril: ::Scanning:: Relatively simple locking mechanism. I should be able to crack it. But before we bust in, let’s try the polite approach. I think I’ve found the door control.

His gaze was suddenly drawn to something, and Imril tapped on a panel in the wall. A small control panel lit up.

Imril: =/\= Hello? =/\=

The panel's colorful hues transformed into a rhythmic voice pattern. With a smile, Imril spoke once more.

Imril: =/\= Hello. I am Lieutenant Imril of the Federation starship Artemis. We come in peace. Your ship send out a distress call. We’re here to help. =/\=

Another voice pattern wave on the panel, followed by another moment of silence, indicating a lack of response from the other side. Sam tried to encourage the lieutenant.

Richards: Good job Imril. Keep that tone, maybe they are just scared. You’re doing good.

Bergmen quickly checked the surrounding doors and confirmed they had similar panels and the same response of not opening to their presence. He looked at the commander and nodded to confirm this wasn’t an anomaly.

Jovenan: Response

So Imril continued.

Imril: =/\= I’m here with Commander Jovenan, Lieutenant Bergmen, and Scientist Richards. Do you require any assistance? =/\=

Boraxians kept their silent treatment. Imril checked his tricorder if comms lines really function. They did.

Imril: Energy lines and computing hardware in this section of the wall are intact. They can hear us, if they want to. It might help if we tell them we have permission to be here. But in all the excitement, I don’t think I heard the name of their leader.

Richards: If I remember correctly it started with an L… I think? ::pausing for a moment:: L…Lori, no. Lurie… No… Luriett! I believe that was it.

Sam glanced at the others for confirmation. Ollie attempted to remember the information he had read about the mission while they were checking their equipment in the transport room. He recalled that the name had appeared in the document he had reviewed, but no matter how hard he tried, the details were completely eluding him.

Jovenan/Imril: Response

Richards: Imril, want to give it another go, let them know we spoke with their leader and we were asked to be here to help?

The scientist offered an encouraging smile and nodded at the engineer.

Imril: Response

Ollie glanced at Jo, his eyes drifting to her phaser, then back to his engineering case.

Bergmen: Maybe they are trapped or incapacitated. Given the potential emergency, if they still do not answer, I would recommend breach.

Jovenan: Response

As they made another attempt to get a response from the Boraxians, Sam held her tricorder steady, carefully scanning the area around them and behind the door.

Suddenly, the wall panel crackled softly, breaking the silence.

Richards: Did anyone else hear that?

Ollie nodded. So they were alive, probably well, just not answering.

And that changed quickly, too.

Boraxian?: Is it breathable outside again?

Jovenan/Imril: Response

The response appeared to please the individual on the other side, as the door unexpectedly slid open. The figure behind them was roughly as tall as Imril, and Bergmen finally understood how the bulkhead door could be operated with just two hands. They couldn't. Boraxians had four hands.

Boraxian?: It’s an honor of mine to know and be known, Artemis persons. Know me as Remy ::points to much taller and bulkier Boraxians standing behind:: Know them as Ellise and Aimee.

Boraxians waved them in some gesture Ollie couldn’t replicate, even if he wanted to. So instead, he nodded.

Bergmen: I’m Lieutenant Bergmen. Honor is ours, Remy. Ellise. Aimee.

Four hands and a height discrepancy weren't the only interesting things about them. They all had a breathing mask clipped to the rigging over their chests, and they all wore neon yellow jumpsuits - although the glowing color was less visible due to all the dirt on their clothing and faces.

Jovenan/Imril/Richards: Response

Ellise stepped forward to answer that question.

Ellise: We were part of the Damage Control team tasked with fighting the fire in this corridor. Unfortunately, the flames were too intense for us to manage, and when the order to evacuate the deck came through, we found ourselves trapped. We advised others to seal off the bulkhead and ventilate the space, and then took refuge in this unaffected quarter.

The explanation seemed technically plausible to Ollie, given that they had discovered signs of fire and very little debris. However, it was unclear why no evacuation of occupants in this section was mentioned, or why others would have abandoned these three when the atmosphere in the corridor had clearly been restored. The away team could clearly breathe in the corridor, after all.

Jovenan/Imril/Richards: Response

TAG/TBC

(( OOC: Ellise, Remy, and Aimee are General NPC, so anyone can write for them. As the Boraxians are a matriarchal society, Ellise serves as a group leader, being the only female among them. ))
