((BELOW DECK 250, STARBASE 224))
He had always enjoyed the sublevels of Deep Space 3. Time spent tottering after his Mother, as she went about this repair job or that. Concocting Schemes with Zee. Moments spent alone, away from watching his temper, from being Andorian but not, from a world that was Starfleet but not.
He wandered the lowest levels. The air was closer, drier, with an electric charge that caught the pallete in smell and taste. The drone-hum of mechanism and system shifted as he walked. Loud, heavy pulses throbbed through the decks and bulkheads. Thin, high frequency fizz, buzzed in the ear and tingled across the teeth. The lighting was low and warm.
All the other Engineering crew had taken to the bars, holodecks, and dance floors of the upper levels. Conversation would inevitably linger on those still in sickbay, of the Inertial Dampeners being powered down and all the accidents this decision caused. Nobody blamed him as such, but they needed to talk it out. It was clear they could not do that with him present.
He wandered the twilight decks of Engineering, cargo bay, and Spacedock facilities, but the acrid taste and heavy stench of plasma burns never left him. Through the mess of mechanical and system drone and hum, panicked cries and whimpers of pain followed him. No matter the deck, the question remained the same. Had he done the right thing.

The Engineering kit slapped against the outside of his leg. He had been here before, of course. Before his first mission. There was something he had been meaning to fix. At least, that's the reason he gave himself.
He arrived at the door. Already he could see it sat awkward on its runners. The central seem overlapped and tappered off to one side a touch. The young Andorian pressed the door chime. He waited. Waited to fix the door. Waited to fix his mistake. Waited to fix himself.
Swoo-clunk-clunk-fu-fu-fu-fu-cluuuunk. The door shuddered open.
Tho'Bi: ::quiet measured but on edge:: Hey, Lieutenant Vailani. ::apologetic tone:: I'm here to fix the door I broke.
