((New Kehixa, Grunden Capital City - Kydon))
They were just approaching the city limits as the buildings came into view. The large gothic architecture spoke to the age of the buildings. The Grunden prided themselves on keeping what they had pristine instead of upgrading things that didn’t need it. Their meeting place was the largest building in the city– The dark stone was adorned with pointed arches, large stained glass windows and multiple towers. The city had a feeling of old, but the Grunden technology hadn’t fallen short. Many of the building's towers were command stations where teams would review real-time images and live-feeds from around the city. Cameras were strategically hidden within the intricate structures of the layout, making it difficult for infiltrators to discover.Â
As they reached the Capital building, Kexxin could feel the –arguably valid– annoyance from some of the Starfleet team. They seemed to fall back a bit, so he took Naru and tried to give them a moment.Â
Naru: I do not think they appreciated your ‘training’.
Kexxin: Yeah… I don’t think so either. ::Shrugging:: I wish I knew how all the tech stuff worked but I can’t explain it to them the way they want. At the end of the day, the Gov. hands us the things and we use it. That doesn’t mean I know how it works.
Naru: Perhaps an apology might be in order, Sir?
Kexxin huffed and waved him off as they reached the security guards for the Capitol building. He gave them all the information they needed to allow the Starfleet personal access. Kexxin and Naru stood at the top of the steps, waiting at attention for their guests to be ready to join them.Â
((OOC: I removed the tags that would not have been heard by Kexxin and Naru. Please see the other sims in this scene for those tags.))
Kexxin: ::To Vailani:: Security clearance has been granted for your whole team.Â
He gestured for them to enter the Capitol. As he led them in, the metal suit that housed the little blue jellyfish spoke up.
Gnai: This is a… very old building. And in remarkable shape, for the war. Has it not reached the capital yet?
Kexxin: Many of our efforts are used here in the Capitol to keep our history safe. ::Lowering his voice:: Keeping our Gov. officials safe is also a top priority.
He hoped it hadn’t sounded too offhanded of a comment, but he did feel like there was a more than necessary amount of resources being used to keep the people– who have never seen the front lines– safe.Â
Cole/Sadar/Vailani: Response
The tall Andorian had sunken down to his knees, running his fingers along the floor.Â
Tho’Bi: ::still kneeling:: The entire structure appears to be held in place ::looking up and around the hall:: by tree root and branch ::stands up and looks at Vailani:: readings indicate ::flips Tricorder for Vailani to see:: it’s one tree (beat) one living tree.
Vailani: Response
Kexxin: Uh… Yep. Is that- not something you’ve seen before?
Sadar: That’s an impressive architectural accomplishment… ::looks to the General:: This building seems to be of particular symbolic importance to your people. And older than most of the other buildings outside.
He was slightly taken back by the responses, but looked to Naru for some help.Â
Naru: ::Lightly clearing his throat:: Our ancestors found that the trees were resilient against not only the elements, but against generations of families. They began to use the trees without harming them, to build within them. Some of us think it is an outdated practice. But our heritage is important to us, so we continue with what we were taught by our ancestors.
Cole/Sadar/Gnai/Vailani/Tho’Bi: Response
Holding up his paw and gesturing to Naru with a nod of agreement, Kexxin could tell some of the guests must have a similar understanding.Â
Sadar: You can certainly tell there is a… A ‘reverence’ of the past. It’s no wonder that you’re known as a society of storytellers.
Kexxin: If you want stories, get some of our old timers talking. They will give you stories for days on end.
(( Conference Room - Grand Kehixa Edifice, New Kehixa, Galaris IV ))
The double doors of the Conference room swung open, and he gestured for them to head inside and find a seat.Â
Once they were all settled in the grandiose room, Kexxin and Naru took their spots.
Kexxin: I hope this is a better place for us to talk. I want to start off with a couple apologies. ::clasping his paws together:: I am sorry that our initial plans to meet here were unable to happen due to unforeseen circumstances.Â
Naru loudly cleared his throat.
Kexxin: And sorry about those sensors. I don’t know much about the technology and why it does what it does, but I hope it didn’t startle you too much.Â
Sadar: Th-Thank you, General. It’s truly an extraordinary building.Â
Vailani/Gnai/Cole/Tho’Bi: Response
The room had a long table running down the center, with chairs seated along both sides. A large holo-display lit up in the center of the table with the Grunden sigel in the center. The sigel had of course been all over the Grunts and on their weapons and flags and various buildings, but now for the visitors it may have made more sense. It was an intricate tree, with a paw print placed in the center. Simple, yet meant so much to the Grunden people.Â
Naru: I will be sending information to the Display in front of you to take a look at as we talk. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.Â
Sadar: ::uncomfortable clearing of throat:: P-Perhaps before we get to that, w-we should hear why you believe the Kobyar are receiving off-world aid in the war?
Vailani/Gnai/Cole/Tho’Bi: Response
Both of the Grunden listened intently as questions were asked. Suddenly Kexxin felt a heavy weight on him, that if they couldn’t help– there was a chance the war would never end. Or escalate so much that one faction would inevitably become extinct.
Kexxin: It is my understanding that the Kobyar government has been accepting supplies from an unknown source. That is the only plausible explanation for their advancements that far exceed our own.Â
Vailani/Gnai/Cole/Tho’Bi/Sadar: Response
Kexxin: I said that was my understanding. That doesn’t mean I necessarily agree. My job is to provide you with what I know, not my own theories.Â
Naru sighed hard enough to move the fur on Kexxin’s arm. His Executive Officer didn’t disagree with his theories, but he wasn’t a fan of them being talked about. Especially there in the Capitol.Â
Vailani/Gnai/Cole/Tho’Bi/Sadar: Response
Kexxin: If I can speak completely off the record here– I think our officials themselves are hiding something. I can’t be sure of it, but they seem to think their men on the front lines are all brawn and no brain. Some of their stories are just too convenient when it comes to how Kobyar technology has just fallen into their lap for us to study and use for our own benefit.
Naru gave Kexxin a small pat on his knee, comforting him through his confession. While he didn’t agree with it being shared with the visitors, he was going to support him regardless. Kexxin rested his paw on top of the one still on his leg but under the table– hopefully out of sight of the eyes across from them.Â
Naru: ::Turning to look in any direction but at Kexxin:: Our government officials speak to be people of peace. ::swallowing hard:: Never make the mistake of assuming the person of peace is unskilled at war.
