(( Captain’s Ready Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))

Gnai had had somewhat of an idea what to expect, when it was summoned to the Captain's Office Ready Room. A welcome aboard, some light questions about why it was here. Maybe a bit of a reprimand for how readily it had accepted assassinating a Romulan Senator as an acceptable mission objective, or at the very least, a reprimand for so readily spilling the beans to the captain about doing so.

What it had not been expecting was to be grilled on its culture, and the potential it had for being a representative for it. Someone that other Galadorans would look up to for joining Starfleet. Gnai was certain that she was wrong, Galadoran culture was not like anything humanoid. None of its peers at the Academy had really understood, and it wasn't certain that it would be able to make her understand.

Gnai: ::slowly and carefully:: There is not a drive to go off and pursue individual goals in Galadoran society, sir. It isn't discouraged, but there's just... not very many who are interested in such things. Galador II is very safe and comfortable and it takes a lot of work for it to remain as such. ::pause:: Most others are committed to that, and would see leaving such safety and comfort as the actions of an eccentric.

The change in posture from the captain was worrisome. Why had this turned into an interrogation?

MacKenzie: You mean to tell me that you are so far an outlier among your people that the others on your world wouldn’t see what you’re doing as something to aspire to?

Gnai: Why would the others...? The call to explore is very rare on Galador II. No one else in Anan City felt compelled to leave like this one did.

Its mentor had been living off in the capital city, Galador City. Word had traveled fast to the neighboring dome of what had previously been the Galadoran Colony Ship Anan, currently Anan City. It was only due to the bemused gossip over this old Galadoran and his stories of adventure amongst humanoids that Gnai had even realized how badly it wanted to go out and see the stars up close that lived in the stories that flashed across Galador II's oceans.

MacKenzie: Well, I think you’re underestimating what your joining Starfleet signifies for the others. It only takes one, after all.

Maybe there was a bit of truth to her words... No, there couldn't be. Galadorans were unified, with extraordinarily rare exceptions. It wasn't possible.

Gnai: If all Galadorans were to leave and explore, there would be nothing to call a homeworld. The original Galador was lost, and there is little desire to lose the second one as well. The work of keeping the world as it is requires the participation of nearly every Galadoran. There is barely any difference between one and the next.

MacKenzie: You know your people better than I do – who am I to argue?

Gnai: ::pause, wary:: Thank you, sir.

This was making it very uncomfortable, and its filaments flashed out dimly, a quick warning of its distress in a sickly shade of orange.

MacKenzie: So, how are you enjoying your time on the Artemis?

None of her questions were easy, were they?

Gnai: ::pause:: The ship is wonderful, the quarters are good as well. ::raising and lowering its suit arms, in a manner akin to someone attempting to shrug after only having read about what the gesture looked like:: There is nothing to complain about.

MacKenzie: Response

Oh, she didn't mean the physical aspect of it all. Back into interrogation mode again, it seemed.

Gnai: The mission... ::pause, thinking:: Hearing that missions like that are the norm does not inspire great confidence. Sir.

MacKenzie: Response

Gnai: As you said, sir. Being imprisoned in a Betazoid penal colony isn't very welcoming. Nor scientifically interesting. Being imprisoned inside, there was no chance to even look at the stars. ::pause:: They probably thought that was too much information for prisoners.

MacKenzie: Response

Gnai: Hopefully the next mission is to some very interesting pulsar. Or neutron star. And there are no hostiles. Or senators to assassinate.

Maybe that was a bit naive to hope for, but if she was intent on getting Gnai's feelings, it would oblige. Coming straight from the Academy to here, and being snapped by CloQ into the mission, had stressed it out fairly well. So well that Cmdr. Adea had ordered it to have fun. What a strange world they lived in, where doctors could prescribe fun.

MacKenzie: Response
