Lt Alex Storm - Phasers and Apparitions

Storm watched as the Kobali completed the exercise admirably.  She had some natural talent, Alex was interested to see how far that went.  Either way, she was here to help prepare them for their qualifications, and Alex had some suggestions.

Storm:  So while I was watching the last exercise, I noticed a few simple things I can teach you to improve even on an easy exercise like the one you just finished, if you’re interested in learning.

Vyhsa’lia: Oh, of course. Whatever you have to teach, I’m here to learn.

Alex had been married for seven years, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t sense when someone was both serious and flirtatious. 

Storm: Okay, so let’s talk a little about your stance.  Take a look at your legs.  They are straight.  When you’re firing a phaser, you want to keep your knees slightly bent.

Alex demonstrated what she was talking about. 

Storm:  If you don’t, you can be caught literally flat-footed.  When your knees are bent, you’re ready to move.

Alex watched as Vyhs’lia mimicked her stance.

Storm:  Not quite so low.  You want them barely bent.  

As the Kobali corrected her stance, Alex nodded.

Storm:  Very good.  How let’s talk about your arms.  We’re going to treat them the same way that we treat our legs.  We want our elbows to be bent slightly, so that our arms aren’t stiff.  It allows us to react faster.  

Alex stepped up to Vyhsa’lia.

Storm:  May I?

Alex moved their phaser back toward their body just a little.  

Storm:  Feel how that’s better?  Now, if I got the drop on you and tried to hit your arm, there’s less likelihood that you’ll drop the phaser.

Vhysa’lia: That makes sense, so… ::adjusting their stance and grip:: like this?

Storm: Exactly.  Those simple adjustments should help you on the next exercise.

Vhysa’lia: I think I’m ready for another simulation, unless you’ve got any more advice?

Storm: Not yet. :: Reinitiate her PADD and sets up the next scenario.::  Let’s try this one.

Vhysa’lia:  Response

Alex pressed a button on her PADD and the holodeck sprang to like in a complete replica of the Artemis’s mess hall complete with people.  

Storm:  Okay.  Obviously, what you’ve got here is the mess hall on the Artemis.  What’s going to happen is you’re going to see different people change from themselves into specters of them selves like this.  

One of the people turned white and morphed into a ghost-like apparition of themselves.  

Storm:  When you see that, that is your target.  You’ll gain points for hitting the correct target.  You’ll lose points for hitting someone who is not a target.

Vhysa’lia:  Response

Storm:  Ready?

Vhysa’lia:  Response

Alex initiated the program and stepped to the side to watch the JayGee play it out.

Vhysa’lia:  Reponse
