(( Rakantha Central Hospital – Rakantha Province, Bajor ))

As Lt. Jovenan and Gnai gathered near Ens. Chevalier's bed, the doors slammed open and the Captain stomped her way into the room, staring daggers at everyone involved. The mess of sweat and dirt that covered her skin hinted at her being dragged away from something elsewhere on the surface of Bajor... and it was evident from the expression on her face that she was distinctly displeased to have had to leave whatever she had been doing. Gnai slowly drifted to the bottom of its tank, subconsciously trying to flatten itself out of her eyesight.

MacKenzie: You fools better have a good explanation for this.

Not what Gnai had wanted to hear! Not in the slightest. Maybe a 'how are you all' or a 'is Ensign Chevalier on the mend' or perhaps even a neutral 'what happened'. Those would have been far more pleasant to hear after the whole ordeal that they had been through.

Jovenan: Captain, I was leading an exercise for Ensigns Savel, Chevalier and Gnai as well as Crewman Renirs. Gnai and Renirs discovered a transporter-proven cave, which they entered with my permission and where Renirs stepped on a weight triggered explosive. Due to Renirs’ injuries, I ordered Savel and Chevalier to proceed with immediate rescue attempts, during with Chevalier also stepped on a mine and suffered severe injuries.

Gnai: The cave was investigated relating to the... tricorder... training... mission...

Its suit's voice trailed off as the captain crossed her arms, and her expression remained as harsh as ever. Maybe it should just shut up. That might be smart. The less it said, the less that she could be mad at it for. Yet another perk of being an ensign, it guessed. With luck, it could fade a bit into the background, and avoid the brunt of her anger.

Probably not, if its luck so far had been anything to go by though.

MacKenzie: Where is Renirs?

Jovenan: Crewman Renirs is in another ward, and she was making a full recovery as I last saw her. Ensigns Gnai and Savel survived without injuries. The cave is being investigated by the Bajoran authorities.

Out of the corner of its vision, Gnai caught a brief motion. Ens. Chevalier! His finger was moving, tapping on his bed lightly. That was a good sign, was it not? He'd be coming around soon. Right?

Gnai: Are you okay, Chevalier?

Jovenan/Chevalier: Response

Hearing Ens. Chevalier's voice, even just a word, was a great balm to the worry that had been plaguing Gnai ever since he had reappeared on the transporter pad, leaking blood across the floor and carrying his leg in his lap. The horrifying image was not likely to leave Gnai's mind soon, however, it could tack on the knowledge that Ens. Chevalier wasn't dead to the end of that.

MacKenzie: Lieutenant, a word?

Gnai was extremely grateful to be left out of that conversation. Sorry, Lt. Jovenan. As the two moved to a corner in the room, likely for a chewing-out, Gnai moved closer to Ens. Chevalier's bed. Its bunkmate looked horrible, and it felt horrible that he had gotten injured. The idea to investigate the cave had been Renirs', but Gnai had agreed and had made the final decision. Didn't that put some of the weight of all the injury on its conscience?

((OOC: Gnai is going to be politely ignoring whatever is happening with MacKenzie and Jovenan.))

As much as it wanted to know what had happened with the mine, and how he had stumbled upon it... Gnai assumed poking further at the events might not be the best thing to do at this moment. Perhaps later. Perhaps not at all.

Gnai: Are you able to speak much?

Chevalier: Response

Good. He sounded horrible, but at least he was talking, even if only briefly. Gnai had made certain that Renirs had kept talking as much as she could throughout the harrowing moments between the explosion and the hospital, worried every second that she might shut up for good. Hearing Ens. Chevalier talk again was a good sign, in Gnai's book.

Gnai: This does not know if you heard... but Crewman Renirs is making a full recovery. Neither Savel nor this were injured.

Chevalier: Response

Gnai looked down at the legs, covered by the blanket. It was mildly (morbidly) curious as to what had happened to the leg that he had carried with him. Ugh. That image once again would not leave it alone.

Gnai: Your leg... has it been reattached?

Chevalier: Response
