(( Tamio’s Office - Operations Center, Deck 5, USS Artemis-A  ))

Tamio was sitting cross-legged on the floor, surrounded on all sides by PADDs of varying urgency and palatability, frowning as they twirled their holobrush between their fingers in a bid to keep them occupied, their shaggy hair kept up in a fountain by a tight hairband. Despite the exceedingly clear ‘Disturb At Own Peril’ sign that Tamio had put on the door, they’d still been interrupted 5 times by different officers who - upon entering - had astutely commented that Tamio’s work method was highly unorthodox.

They entered on their own accord, and as such could live with the consequences, even if that was having the sight of their Chief sitting in a huff on the floor like a grad student with an impending deadline.

Pouring over these PADDs made Tamio realize why Lieutenant Vailani had so eagerly left the position, even if the testy Bajoran claimed it was because she wasn’t good with people.

oO Bullocks, these things are the true enemy. Oo

To be fair, Tamio had made a sizable dent in the PADDs already - they had gotten probably 62% of them sorted at this point - but they had no doubt that the Assistant Chief was just waiting to come by with another hovercart-load of them. Tamio would make a very unflattering sculpture of her if she did.

They pulled up a new PADD once the contents of the previous one was dealt with - the final ramifications of the outgoing transfers for the launch of the Thor from a few months prior had just been solved with the latest batch of Ensigns, of whom Ens Jaran was one - and now, it was time to focus on the rather sizable number of PADDs that dealt with concrete projects currently ongoing.

K’Wara: ‘Remote scanning project’ ::mumblemumble:: ‘temporarily delayed pending-’ ::narrows eyes::

Tamio knew that the Artemis-A was equipped with some of the most advanced sensors in the Borderlands fleet, owing to the Captain’s decision to use their tactical POD for extra sensor housing, but they had limited experience with it. Obviously, the reputation of the Artemis’ sensor capabilities were substantial enough that the scheduled project for scanning a nearby stellar anomaly had met resistance from the Ferengi Commerce Authority.

As Tamio read the increasingly convoluted message, containing far more Rules of Acquisition, conjecture of Starfleet’s economic interests in the sector and excessive explanations of the current state of commerce politics in the Authority, they realized that they were woefully underprepared for this particular conundrum.

The complaint from the Authority was, in very broad strokes, that they feared that the Artemis’ sensor project would compromise Ferengi business interests in the star system where the project was slated to aim the pod at, and while Tamio was fairly certain that was in no way a possibility, they didn’t know.

K’Wara: ::mischievous grin:: I know who does though.

Jovenan: Response

Tamio entered in short order as they received permission, smiling at the Edo Lt. Commander with a glimmer in their felinoid eyes.

K’Wara: Hope I’m not interrupting, Commander.

Jovenan: Response?

Tamio handed over the PADD to her as they took a seat in the chair in front of her desk.

K’Wara: I assume you’ve seen this one already?

They offered the Chief of Science a few moments to peruse the PADD.

Jovenan: Response

K’Wara: ::waves their hand:: Eh, it’s bureaucratic roadblocks - we should be able to get the project back on schedule in a couple of days once our legal division formulates a proper response - but my curiosity is piqued. I admit I don’t know much about the pod beyond its specifications, and those never meant much to me. ::tips their head towards her:: Word on the grapevine is, though, you're something of an expert on it.

Jovenan: Response
