Genkos smiled over at the tank that contained the ensign. He’d seen a lot of ensigns come and go over the years, some remaining onboard with him, others transferring, and some others still leaving the fleet altogether. Very few had died, although there were some who had not made it, and others who were just dead to him.

Gnai: ~ Thank you, sir. That's the plan. To explore and to make stories, to see the galaxy... ~

Adea: ~ So, what’s the goal? When you reach the top - what does that look like for you? ~

Gnai: ~ I ::partial:: have no ambitions for the top. Just research. It would be nice to discover something important, of course. But command...? ~

Adea: ~ Oh, I did not mean necessarily the Captain’s seat, just what you were aiming for, what’s the top of your game? ~

Gnai: ~ Sorry to misunderstand, sir. ::pause:: There's lots out there to discover, and I ::partial:: don't intend to rush. Being an ensign is nice for the moment. ~

Genkos looked at Gnai for a moment, observing the ensign in its tank for a moment.

Adea: ~ Please, Gnai, call me Genkos. And I understand, Ensign is a wonderful rank with fewer responsibilities and more chances to develop ~

Gnai bobbed again in its tank, and Genkos was fascinated although he tried not to stare.

Gnai: ~ As an ensign, there's far more time to focus on science, rather than the administrative tasks that it seems more senior members have to worry about. ~

Genkos nodded and gave out a little laugh, as he totally agreed with Gnai’s summation of the situation.

Adea: ~ You are not wrong, Gnai. I am often up to my eyeballs in PADDwork. I think since I made CMO, I have done less and less actual doctoring every year. ~

Gnai: ~ Response ~

Genkos smiled a little maudlin smile, and brushed a leaf from underfoot with his cane. He was a little surprised that many of the new ensigns had not remarked upon the device, but then with Gnai, the Galadoran may not be familiar with Betazoid physiognomy.

Adea: ~ I do miss it, really, I don’t get to do as much as I would like. But I can always insist on doing SOME doctoring, I just never have the time; ~

Gnai: ~ Response ~

"You know, I'm really easy to get along with most of the time, but I don't like bullies and I don't like threats, and I don't like you, Culluh. You can try and stop us from getting to the truth but I promise you that if you do I will respond with all the 'unique technologies' at my command." - Kathryn Janeway
