((USS Artemis-A, deck 8, Chief Tactical Officer office))

Alex made notes on her PADD, as Nat keyed in a few on her own.

Storm:  You’ve given us both quite an assignment, Commander.  But I think we’re both up to the task and make a good team.

Cole: We do. Alex and I approach things a little differently, which honestly makes me trust the end result more. If we’re building something for the crew, I’d rather it come from more than one way of thinking.

Nat gave Alex a smile, between Luxasi Station and Callis I they had formed a friendship that was tested under some rather interesting conditions.

Silveira: I know, that’s why I am handing this to you both. I have every confidence in either of you and know neither will let me down.

Storm: You know us, we might be a little unconventional at times, but we’ll do you proud.

Cole: I think with that in mind the risk assessment could tell us a lot, not just where people are vulnerable, but where Security and Tactical may be assuming readiness instead of building it.

Silveira: Sorry I think you lost me there…

Storm: I think…

Alex looked over at Nat and set a hand on her armrest.

Storm: …what she’s saying is that, we’re under the assumption that Tactical and Security are good, but that’s working more from an assumption than from evidence.  We probably are okay…mostly, but there may be some holes that we can’t see.

Cole: If we’re doing this right, it should show us where our readiness actually is, not where we assume it is.

oO If I’m ever going to help lead, this is the kind of work that matters. Oo

Silveira: OK now I got it, yes very valid point.

Storm: That way, we can plug any holes before they grow.

Silveira: But remember to keep a component regarding our own risk assessment. I know we all tend to be a little… ::he didn’t want to use the word reckless, so he tried to find a better suited synonym:: audacious. I want us all to work on that.

oO Understood, Commander. Message received, filed, stamped, and probably mounted on the wall. Oo

Nat cast a glance at Alex with her peripheral vision, Alex's expression was too difficult to read.

Storm: Understood, Commander.

Cole: Aye Sir.

Silveira: You mentioned you had an idea when Lieutenant Storm was asking about the medical part? Care to share it?

Storm: Oh yeah.

Alex raised her eyebrows and looked over at her.

Storm: You said you had an idea.  I’m curious too.

Cole: The mention of psych evals gave me an idea. I’m not talking about digging through anyone’s private records, but looking at broader stress-response patterns. If we know how people are likely to react under pressure, we can train to support those weaknesses before they become liabilities.

Vitor tipped his head.

Silveira: Interesting…

Alex blinked.

Storm:  And you want to incorporate that into the Risk Assessment?  Or were you thinking of using that more in the readiness drills?

Cole: Primarily the risk assessment. The drill can expose the results, but the assessment is where it becomes useful. If we know who tends to freeze, overcommit, or narrow their focus too hard under pressure, we can build training that addresses that before it costs us in the field.

Storm:  Okay.  I see how that could fit.  Maybe it’s something we can keep workshopping and find the best angle to incorporate it.

Cole: Exactly. I’m not trying to label anyone. I’m trying to give us a better map. If we know where people are likely to hesitate, overextend, or shut down, then Security and Tactical can train to support that instead of being surprised by it in the field.

Silveira: I concur.

Alex focused her eyes on her PADD.  The tightness in her jaw might betray her, but if her eyes were focused elsewhere, at least they couldn’t.

Storm:  I’m just going to jot that down, so I don’t forget it for the next time we meet. She tipped her head at Nat.

Cole: Better to catch blind spots in training than write them into an incident report later.

Commander Silveira leaned back in his chair.

While still looking busy writing on her PADD, with as much ease and nonchalance as she could muster, she said…

Storm:  Anything else, Commander?

Silveira: Not that I can think of… ::he looked at each in turn:: If you need anything I am here to help.

Cole: Aye, Sir. We’ll make sure it’s something the crew can actually use.

Natasha set her PADD down against her knee and straightened slightly in her chair. The assignment felt bigger now that it had shape. Bigger, but clearer.

Storm:  Response

Vitor leaned forward crossing his hands in front of him.

Silveira: As I said I know your work and I trust you both. Just thought to get you a few pointers and something to work on. And you make a great team.

Cole: We’ll make it worth the trust. ::glancing to Alex with a small, confident smile:: Looks like we’ve got homework.

Storm:  Response

Silveira: Carry on then. Dismissed Lieutenants.

Cole: Aye, Commander.

Storm:  Response

Natasha rose with her PADD in hand, already mentally sorting the assignment into pieces she could act on.

Cole: ::glancing to Alex:: Looks like you’re stuck with me.

Storm:  Response
