(( Intensive Care Unit - Primary Sickbay, Deck 07, USS Artemis-A ))
Meyers: ::wrinkled brow:: As I was saying, the pseudo-crystallization of the tissue must have made it incompatible with the mutative properties of the Callisian transporter network. It must target specific cell types... ::considers:: Though using Imril's cells alone as a framework won't work. They'll be foreign matter to the other patients.
Jaran: Do you think we could use this crystalline "shield" to help the others? We have lots of data on how the calming ritual is performed.
Meyers: Having to activate an empathic ritual, in which the patient must be an active participant, is likely impossible as a treatment method, given most of our patients are currently unconscious.
Jaran: What would be your recommendation, sir?
Meyers: I’d say manually converting cells into iridosomes to replace the mutated cells is without a doubt the most likely to succeed, but also the most time-consuming and the most taxing for our patients, and their bodies are going through enough trauma as is. ::considers:: From the incident report, the Boraxians claimed the crystals were able to ‘soothe violent tempers’, yes? Was there any scientific collaboration for that, any evidence of why the Boraxians believed this to be the case?
Jaran: It's worth pointing out that it's unclear whether it was an effect of the crystals themselves or if it was a result of a Boraxian ritual using the crystals. I myself lean toward it requiring an active component from the ritual leader as we never observed the crystals having an effect without outside intervention.
Jira tried not to smile a little. It wasn't exactly something they should be proud of, but they enjoyed correcting Meyers.
Meyers: Response
Jaran: The subject wouldn't necessarily need to be conscious. All Lt. Imril did during the ritual was to exist quietly.
Jira felt like they were grasping at thin hope. They didn't even know if the Yurum ritual could be performed without a Yurum to lead it, or if it would have any effect if it could. But they didn't have anything to lose at this point.
Meyers: Response
Jira's serious expression became a tentative smile.
Jaran: We have huge amounts of data on the ritual. An empath would need to be the one to perform it, and they would need to study what was done very precisely. I'm still not even certain we can replicate it at all, but at least we'll know quickly if it doesn't work.
