((Corridor to Tertiary Command Processors, Deck 15, USS Artemis))

Jovenan was afraid.

She was held hostage by the Witch Queen. There were two knights standing before them, yet they had been bewitched to think her hideous captor was the real Queen and had sheathed their swords. She could try to break the Witch Queen’s spell, but if she did, she’d face her final fate. All meanwhile the Dragon lurked somewhere in the shadows.

She wasn’t a princess in this story. She couldn’t wait till the Brave Prince would come to her rescue. She didn’t know if he was ever coming. No, she had to save herself, and the entire kingdom.

If it meant that her demise, so be it. Her life was cheap; it was the only thing she could volunteer.

T’Gol: Very well, ma’am. Please, remain still for a moment.

Jovenan’s heart raced in her chest, like wanting to break free from its captivity that had now lasted for almost three decades. She was very aware of the Colonel by her side, and the weapon she would be ready to use against the security officers… and, ultimately, her.

T’Gol: =/\= Ensign T’Gol to Commander Adea. =/\=

Adea: =/\= Come in. =/\=

It was Commander Adea’s voice, but there was no Commander Adea on the other side. Like the Colonel besides her, the Commander of this universe had been replaced by an imposter who had travelled across the universes. Adea, the Adea she had the dishonour of sharing the universe with, was going to lie about the identity of the Colonel, and there was nothing the security officers could do.

If the Colonel felt merciful at the time, she might let the fooled security personnel walk away and they would resume with their plan. If she didn’t, as she likely wouldn’t, they would meet their ultimate fate a little earlier than they would otherwise.

T’Gol: =/\= Sir, there is an individual on Deck 15 claiming to be Captain MacKenzie, can you… =/\=

There was nothing they could do.

But there was for Jovenan.

Jovenan: She lies! She’s an imposter!

She had done it. She had signed her own execution order hours ago, by betraying the Monsters. Now, she had walked to the gallows and tied the rope around her own neck.

Her hope, her wish, was that her scream would cause enough chaos. The security officers would draw weapons against the Colonel, and the Colonel against them. She might have gained an opportunity to survive, and, she hoped, given the security personnel a fighting chance. The soles of her shoes almost grinded into the deck plating as she turned away and sprinted towards the corner. They had only just a moment ago came from that direction, yet it felt like an eternity, and trying to reach it again felt like an eternity as well.

Adea: =/\= Shoot the Edo! =/\=

She was ready to die. She had known it was a possibility for a long time now. It was so weird how long it felt, yet it hadn’t been even a week since she had tried avoiding dirtying her pristine white uniform while listening to one of the Monsters proclaim they were going to steel a prismagon. At that time she had rolled her eyes and chirpily tried befriending what she now knew to be her executioners and killers. She had changed a lot in that time.

Adea: =/\= If anyone has eyes on Mediator Jovenan, kill her. =/\=

She was ready to die. But she didn’t want to. She didn’t plan to.

Still, she was afraid.

Her plan was to make it to the corner. Turning behind it, she would no longer be on the direct line of fire. That would buy her a few extra seconds. Not far from the corner, she remembered, was a turbolift. If she made it there, she could close the doors and be off from this deck. The entire ship was full of the Spawns of the Monsters, but she would live for a moment longer. She might even make it to the Starfleet crew and help them slay the monsters. They might even give her a weapon to fight the Beasts. She didn’t want to die unarmed, like a coward.

Dakora: Starfleet Intelligence, put your hands where I can see them!

Jovenan had to slow down as another group jumped on her way. Her mind didn’t keep up with the changed situation but kept considering her options after reaching the safety of the turbolift.

oO I could ask to be taken to Sil. Oo

oO I will be safe with Oo

End for Jovenan 💔
