((OOC – Bit of a long one, but I decided to roll the end of the scene with Lorana into the beginning of the scene with Savel, so there’s plenty o’ tags in this one!))
((Chief of Security’s Office, Deck 8 – USS Artemis))
Osuna: The point is, Ensign, that worrying about these types of decisions is my job – and I take it very seriously – so that the rest of you don’t have to. When you feel like your life is threatened, or anyone else’s, I don’t want you to hesitate. Use the tools you’re given and use them confidently… ::chuckle:: …as it sounds like you did. ::Beat:: You follow me?
Lorana: :: chuckles herself :: Yes, sir. Next time I hope the tool I'm using is a scientific scanner. I'm really looking forward to getting to know this ship and her crew.
Gabe nodded, satisfied that he’d made his point to the Ensign about her use of the phaser. In his estimation, having read the report, it had been justified – and there’d been no complaint from the Da’al in question, nor their local authorities. If Lt. Dakora’s rage-soaked plea to shoot him could be taken as any indication, perhaps they’d even consider the stun shot a mercy.
He held up his cup of Buko Juice and clinked it against the Caitian’s cup of K’larr before they each finished off their drinks.
Lorana: Now that we've got my panicked outburst over and done with. Is there anything else you'd like to go over?
Osuna: ::Enjoying the refreshing coconut beverage:: Ahhh… ::Setting the cup aside:: Yes, actually. I take it as a point of personal and professional satisfaction to learn a bit about everyone I serve with. You can imagine it’s important for a Chief of Security to know his crew..?
Lorana: Response
Osuna: Tell me a bit about yourself. Were you born on Cait, or off-world? What drew you to Starfleet? What sort of scientist are you? ::Holding up a hand, chuckling:: Sorry for the rapid-fire – those are just suggestions. Speak whatever comes to your mind, Ensign.
Lorana: Response
Osuna: I’ve known some Caitians in my day. I’ve yet to find one I didn’t get along with. ::Shrug:: I think, like me, they tend to seem more intimidating than they really are. Probably why so many of them make their way into Security positions. ::Smile:: How are you finding things, so far? You got off to a running start, have you found your footing yet?
Lorana: Response
((OOC – If you want to have more of a conversation, feel free to add additional tags for me here and I can backfill them.))
Osuna: Right – well, it sounds to me like you’ve got a good handle on things. ::Smirking:: Just don’t make a habit of shooting civilians and we won’t have a problem, alright?
He stood and walked his way over to the door, pressing the button to open it.
Osuna: I’ll activate your security clearances in a few minutes, replacing your temporary Academy credentials… ::Holding out a hand:: Welcome to the Artemis, Ensign.
Lorana: Response
Osuna: If you need anything, you feel free to reach out, okay?
As the young Caitian scientist left his office and the door shut behind her, Gabe chuckled to himself. His first day on the job had been exciting too – though he hadn’t been in a situation to shoot anyone. Of course, by then, he’d already had years of experience in the civilian sector under his belt… As he strode over to his desk, he looked around the room, shaking his head at how barren it was. Something he’d need to sort out sooner, rather than later.
He went to the replicator and spoke.
Osuna: Computer, access personal file Osuna Alpha Tango One… Replicate a standard framed photo of the file in my office.
Computer: File found. Replicating.
A moment later, the framed image appeared in the alcove before him. He grinned as he picked it up, examining the picture of his wife, Sinya, and their daughter, Angelita with a mixture of love and heartache that always welled up when they were apart for any great time. For now, they’d stay behind on DS224 – and if this posting stuck? Well, they’d probably still stay there. It was a lot safer… But maybe they’d be able to visit.
His thoughts were interrupted by another chime at his door and he turned around, intrigued. He hastily put the photo down on his desk and responded to the chime.
Osuna: Enter.
The door opened, revealing the youthful Vulcan officer that had accompanied Gabriel and Talos down to the planet. While Savel hadn’t fired his phaser, he had proven himself calm and capable under pressure as they had recovered their shuttle and extracted the missing officers. He smiled as he recognized Savel’s face and waved him in – even if the Vulcan man wasn’t likely to return his exuberant welcome.
Savel: Ensign Savel, officially reporting for duty, Lieutenant Osuna.
Osuna: Yes, yes, of course. Come on in, Ensign, and take a seat if you feel like it…
He made his way ‘round to the other side of the desk again and took a seat himself. As he looked back to Savel, he noticed the Ensign examining the basketball hoop attached to the wall.
Savel: Is this for some sort of game, Lieutenant?
Osuna: Hell yeah! ::Picking up the basketball:: Heads up, Ensign.
He took the ball in one hand and deftly tossed it in the direction of the basket, one-handed. It ricocheted off the rim and plunked onto the floor below, bouncing off the wall and rolling back towards his desk, coming to rest near his feet. He tipped the ball back towards him with his foot and rolled it up his leg, giving it a little kick and catching it in the air.
Osuna: Basketball. You throw the ball in the hoop. It’s a miniaturized version, of course. The real sport is a lot more exciting than that – and real players are generally a lot better than I am.
Savel: Response
Osuna: Are you a sports fan, Savel?
Gabe placed the ball back on its little pedestal on his desk and gestured for the Vulcan to sit again. The young man was so stiff he almost seemed like he had a 2x4 up the back of his uniform.
Savel: Response
Osuna: Well, alright, what are some of your interests, then? What got you into the Security service?
Savel: Response
Osuna: That makes sense to me. And how are you finding things now that you’re out of the Academy? I know you’ve just arrived – but I’m curious. What’s your assessment of Artemis, from a Security perspective?
Savel: Response
