(( Jovenan’s Office - Science Center, Deck 9, USS Artemis-A ))
Tamio considered themself quite adept at spontaneous decisions and being a general whirlwind in social circumstances, but even they had to admit that - to validate interrupting the Chief Science Officer (and a higher-ranking officer at that) during her shift - they needed an excuse. Thankfully, the PADD they held in their hand would do the job quite nicely.
K’Wara: I assume you’ve seen this one already?
Jovenan looked over the PADD, evidently familiar with the subject matter even if the message itself was unfamiliar, and Tamio watched her as she went over the message a couple of times, while also taking the time to look around her office. You could tell a lot from how a person decorated their space - if they’d had the time necessary to do decorations, of course - but Jovenan’s assignment had been more than two years running, so they figured it safe to make conjecture based on what they saw.
Minimalist. The office didn’t look like the office of someone who’d manned the desk for two years, but rather the sterile environs of a commercial for the aesthetically demure officer. A few flowers dotted the interior, the most personal element in the room, and it read to Tamio as a very introverted and reserved individual.
Or just boring, but they liked to reserve such judgment for after every opportunity to prove otherwise.
Once Jovenan finished what seemed like her fifth readthrough of the message, Tamio’s attention was dragged back to her when she spoke to them.
Jovenan: I’ve been involved in this matter, but I hadn’t read this message. Thank you bringing it to me. I can’t believe the extent they’re going to block the project.
K’Wara: ::waves their hand:: Eh, it’s bureaucratic roadblocks - we should be able to get the project back on schedule in a couple of days once our legal division formulates a proper response - but my curiosity is piqued. I admit I don’t know much about the pod beyond its specifications, and those never meant much to me. ::tips their head towards her:: Word on the grapevine is, though, you're something of an expert on it.
Tamio’s felinoid irises narrowed with interest as they saw Jovenan look down at the PADD once more, though with a distinct quality to her expression. Without knowing for certain, Tamio would say she was pleased.
Jovenan: I don’t know who has been spreading such rumours. But I suppose I’ve learnt the basics during the years.
K’Wara: ::nonchalant attitude:: Would you know, I’ve never had the opportunity to see one of those pods in action... ::sneaky tug of the mouth:: Don’t presume you have some insights to share?
Jovenan: If you’re familiar with the specifications, there’s little I can teach you here and now. ::stands up:: It’s one of those things that need to be experienced. Please follow me.
oO Got you Oo
K’Wara: Yes Sir.
Now that Jovenan was up and walking - one of the few crewmembers Tamio could claim a height advantage over, which already endeared them to her - her joy with their chosen task for the day was obvious. Tamio was only further confirmed in their suspicion that she was definitely one of those guilty Artemisian workaholics, who much preferred sensor exercises and scientific excursions to getting a drink at a bar of ill-repute, but oh well…
On the other hand, a crewful of Tamios was a recipe for disaster. Some variety was the spice of life, as their dad used to say.
((( A turbolift ride later )))
(( Sensor pod - USS Artemis-A ))
The turbolift ride passed with idle small talk, mostly on how Tamio was settling into their new office, but nothing particularly interesting or noteworthy. When the doors to the turbolift opened, Jovenan clearly wanted them to take in the space and the chatter died as they exited the lift.
To say that the pods design was lackluster would be a massive understatement - all efficiency and utilitarian chrome - but it made sense for what the exceedingly small space was supposed to house. The technology contained within this miniscule Ship attachment was, after all, so advanced and niche that many scientists and engineers would’ve never seen them in person. Computer screens and hardware hatches dominated every panel, while movement between the different segments of the pod was reserved to ladders and tubes.
Jovenan: Welcome to the pod, one of the most advanced ship-bourne sensor system in Starfleet’s service, and also the reason the ship looks like it has a hunchback.
K’Wara: ::sly smirk:: Some would say it makes her look more distinguished. ::focuses on the TOV unit:: I’m guessing this is the source of all the fuss?
Jovenan: Response
K’Wara: ‘Beauty’s in the eye of the Beholder’. I like it.
Jovenan: Response
K’Wara: So, how does it work then? ::mirthful jest:: Or would giving it a test-drive ruin the potential profit gains of the sector irrevocably and land us on some Liquidator’s naughty list?
Jovenan: Response
