(( Bridge - Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
When Tamio had sussed out where they could find Meris - one of the most recent Ensigns whose exam they’d overseen while still stationed at the Academy - they had been slightly disappointed to learn that the Ensign had gotten short end of the stick, as the newest member of the team, and been assigned to the Yawn Watch(TM). There was nothing, genuinely nothing, more boring to a pilot than having to sit at the helm while the Ship was in drydock. Thankfully, Tamio had an idea for something to potentially entertain the Ensign during their shift, which was hidden within the PADD they held in their hand.
Right now, however, Tamio was just enjoying the look of complete and utter shock on Meris’ expression as they disembarked the turbolift, looked up and all but choked on the sip of their drink they had been taking. Tamio couldn’t resist a small wave at the sight.
K’Wara: I thought I’d catch you here if I waited long enough. ::pause:: You ... you do remember me, right? Or this is gonna get awkward real fast.
Meris: Captain! ::cringe:: I mean, Lieutenant.
Tamio knit their lips tightly together at that reaction, praising the powers that be that Captain MacKenzie wasn’t anywhere nearby. It was an understandable slip of the tongue, all things considered, but also a hilarious one.
Meris: Computer, end program? ::tentatively looking around::
oO Worth every second of waiting. Oo
Tamio smiled in a manner they hoped was disarming and calming as the two of them met at the Helm console.
K’Wara: It’s good to see you again, Meris. And please, I’m off-duty. Call me Tamio. When did you arrive on the Artemis?
Meris: ::slowly:: Sir ... of course, Tamio. I arrived yesterday.
Well, at least the conversation was moving forwards, though there was definitely still some suspicion happening on Meris’ face at that moment. Tamio
K’Wara: Have you had time to do a bit of exploring yet? I’ve never served on a Luna class before, so I’ll admit to feeling a bit lost in the shuffle.
Meris: A bit of time, yes ... am I to understand that you've been assigned to the Artemis?
Tamio nodded.
K’Wara: Yep... The day after you graduated, as a matter of fact. Just missed the chance of coming over on a shuttle together.
Meris: I see. ::deadpan:: Congratulations on your assignment to the Artemis.
Tamio’s smile widened at Meris’ words. While they hadn’t chosen the reassignment, they wouldn’t deny that there was a certain element of excitement and ‘newness’ of being aboard a Starship again. The beginning of a new journey was always exciting, regardless of how it came about.
K’Wara: You too. ::gestures to the uniform:: You’re on duty, I surmise? Walk me through: What’s Helm Officer Ensign Meris going to be doing? ::smirk:: In the spirit of ‘you can take the Exam Proctor out of the Holodeck’, and all that.
You can take the Exam Proctor out of the Holodeck, but you can’t beat the mischief out of Tamio K’Wara even if you used a plasma wrench and a MacKenzieBot.
Meris: Response
K’Wara: ::hum:: Sounds good. Or! You could take a look at this. ::hands over PADD with a flourish:: Requests from the DS224 Engineers, for your perusal. Sounds like they want us to test her limits in these coming months.
Meris: Response
Tamio shrugged lightheartedly.
K’Wara: It happened to be on a table in the Operations Center. ::points to entry on the PADD:: This one looks fun. Can’t say I've had the chance to fly a Starship that close to a protoplanetary nebula before, given how rare they are. Think the Artie could handle the wind speeds?
