(( Counselor’s Office – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))
Gila knew that some people avoided medical check-ups like she avoided counselors. She had never been directly tasked with hunting down those who did so - probably because her colleagues in Sickbay knew that Gila was least likely to succeed in such an endeavor - but judging from Crewman Vhysa’lia’s expression, that would be put to the test in the near future.
Not now though. Definitely not now!
Sadar: A healthy work-life balance is mandatory, particularly for our counseling department in these coming weeks, so please keep that in mind. ::considers:: And while I know you’re here on a temporary basis, you are a member of the Medical Division on the Artemis for the duration, so please, make sure to utilize our facilities, both for recreation and for any research you might want to do.
oO See, Cmdr. Adea? This is how one respects boundaries! Oo
Vhysa’lia: ::nodding:: Thank you, I’ll certainly take you up on the offer… ::relaxing a bit again as she tries to shift the focus off of her health and back to Dr. Sadar:: What sort of research do you find yourself partaking in aboard the Artemis? It seems like a strange vessel to be aboard if your goal is medical research in particular?
Gila’s face visibly fell, as her attempt to respect the boundaries of the crewman was far from respected, and in fact rather was turned on her in the most vile of fashions. Gila didn’t know why she’d anticipated anything else. If anything, she was surprised that this jovial individual had not yet violated her in other fashions than unreasonable attempts to pry into her personal life!
Now, how to deflect?
Sadar: M-My goal? :.considers:. I-I don’t- I’m just here to do my job. I’m specialized in crisis care and trauma surgery from the Academy, so assigning me to a contested area of space makes sense…
oO I think? Oo
That was actually a pretty good question, now that Gila thought about it. What in the world had possessed the fleet placement office to put Gila on this crazy Ship!?
Vhysa’lia: ::genuinely intrigued:: Interesting! If I can ask, what drew you to medicine? ::jokingly:: Someone cute in a class? ::laugh, then back to being a little more serious:: A childhood interest? Intellectual challenge? Something else?
Gila paled visibly, realizing that subtleties were lost on this individual. She had to be clear. Set boundaries! Now, how to do that.
Sadar: Oh, uhh, n-no, nothing like that! It, uhh, It just made sense, I suppose... Wh-What about you, Crewman? What motivated you to pursue counseling as an actual field?
oO ... Okay, we need to work on that... Oo
Vhysa’lia: Oh, me? ::they give a knowing smile, Dr. Sadar, you’re deflecting!:: It gives me something to give back to my community. It’s hard to wake up in someplace new, surrounded by aliens, after ::pausing, trying not to be morbid:: something quite physically traumatic in most cases. Medicine and counseling are two sides of the same chip in that regard - I liked approaching the patients I’ve had holistically to minimize distress.
Sadar: I see. I suppose counseling and guidance must be important to Kobali culture, considering...
Gila felt a certain amount of relief as her deflection attempts succeeded at turning the conversation towards the new crewman. She wasn’t sure why aliens thought it so natural to breach personal subjects with complete strangers, but thankfully, they tended to be more than happy to fulfill that task themselves.
Vhysa’lia: Response?
Sadar: ::stands up:: W-Well, I won’t keep you any longer.
Vhysa'lia: Response
Sadar: If you have any questions or concerns about your duties or how best to acclimatize to the Artemis, Commander Adea or Lieutenant Morgan will be serving as your direct superiors while you’re aboard. Consider yourself a colleague in the Medical Department, on the same terms as everyone else.
Vhysa'lia: Response
Gila nodded calmly, bidding the new crewman farewell with a gesture before escaping the counselor’s office.
She never thought she’d meet a counselor that intimidated her more than Lt. Commander Jashkaa, but Crewman Vysah’lia? That was a whole different can of worms...
