((Outside of Alyndra’s Quarters, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A))
Syrex: That’s probably for the best, ensign. However, if you really wish to try it you can have decaffeinated coffee, which won’t give you jitters.
Gnai: Well… that’s part of why this isn’t as well-versed in the social locations aboard the ship as most of the other officers… Sorry to say. ::beat, then a gesture with the suit's arms:: This way, if you'll follow?
Alyndra nodded, following Gnai’s suit, or possibly extension of itself. Alyndra made a mental note to ask what it felt- how it felt.
Tho’Bi nodded and smiled. In that moment, her attention turned to the ensign.
Syrex: ::Looking towards Tho’Bi:: Are you always this nervous ensign?
Tho’Bi: Eh… ::looks any where but at Syrex::
Alyndra smiled reassuringly back at the Andorian Ensign.
Syrex: I’m a doctor, specifically, I am a paediatrician. So, I always know when I see nerves.
Tho’Bi: Yeah. Erm.. ::looks at Syrex:: on-only when I erm… first meet p-people ::looks any where but at Syrex::
A mood seemed to shift in the corridor, as the three officers walked in a pyramid formation, Gnai leading them to wherever it deemed socially viable. Alyndra hoped for Karaoke, but would also understand if Tho’Bi’s nerves or Gnai’s jellyfish-like abilities wouldn’t mean everyone would enjoy it.
However,
Gnai seemed pre-occupied over other things. When it pulled out a PADD from somewhere
in its suit.
Gnai: ::looking at the chronometer on its PADD:: Well, it’s getting close to when this has to go on shift, perhaps just one destination will suffice. The arboretum seems like the best choice…
Syrex: Oh, really? Yeah, if that’s what you’d prefer I’m all for it.
Gnai: It’s just around this corner anyways…
Tho’Bi: ::nods:: Yeah. ::glances at Syrex:: m-more people I met, the better
Ensign Tho’Bi smiled, but his smile was wrong. Alyndra knew that instantly. His mouth was curved, sure, but there was a certain sparkle in his eyes that was noticeably absent.
Syrex: I’m glad it’s getting easier for you, Tho’Bi.
((Arboretum, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A))
When the three officers entered the Arboretum, Alyndra was slapped with the heavily pungent smell of synthetic pollen. Plants were everywhere as far as she could see, at least in the room. The ceiling was a bold blue, with splatters of clouds mixed in like a splash of milk. Truly, it was a room that had been meticulously decorated and catered to the crew’s needs.
It took her mind back to the Ronin, there were some beautiful holographic cherry trees in the 47. The Zen garden was also a wonderful place to relax after a long day, but in terms of scale, the Arboretum was special. She only hoped that the officers of the Artemis knew how lucky they were.
Gnai: Here you go! This is as good a place as any to relax
aboard the Artemis.
Tho’Bi: ::looks around:: I guess this (beat) this is relaxing for (beat) for people who gr-grew up on planets.
Syrex: I’m used to something a
little warmer and more tropical, but yes, this is lovely.
Gnai: You’ll want to do as much as you can. Life on the Artemis is ::long pause:: hectic at best. There’s no such thing as an “easy mission” here.
Tho’Bi: ::truncates & misquotes JFK:: We t-choose to go to the moon, n-not because it is easy, b-but because it is hard ::end of quote:: ::nods:: A human said that ::stops nodding:: a long time ago (beat) be-before they had warp ::looks at the other two::
Alyndra took a long look at the Ensign. As someone who seemed so… It always seemed to her that he struggled to find his words. Maybe he spoke better through quotation, words that were not his own, yet conveyed similar points. Alyndra had heard of similar species that had a similar language model. Only upon looking for Gnai’s input, Alyndra realised it had left for its shift. She shrugged internally.
oO Not so much as a goodbye? Oo
Who knew, maybe that was just the norm for a Galadoran?
Tho’Bi: I was born in space so I like bulk heads and Jefferies tubes
::looks at Syrex:: but, I guess for you (beat) this is really relaxing?
Syrex: It’s certainly more relaxing than lying in a cramped Jefferies tube. The time’s I’ve played catch with my boss, well… more my friend. It’s always in a simulated outdoors. Sometimes, being onboard the USS Ronin, it feels limiting. Sometimes I just want to run, to just do an EVA purely so that I can “get outside”.
Tho’Bi: ::looking around:: Maybe it’s being Andorian too… I can sense all the movement ::looks at Syrex and smiles:: it’s a lot.
Alyndra smiled at him assuringly, placing her hand on his shoulder..
Syrex: Yeah, I get that. Sometimes it’s nice to just be grounded for a moment. That’s another reason people come to spaces like this, it’s not just for nostalgia of their life before Starfleet. It’s for the stillness.
Alyndra gazed out at all the plants in the arboretum, letting her hand follow the direction of her sight. She hoped the ensign may look out in the same manner as herself.
Syrex: The plants here are grounded; they have none of the stresses we have. Sometimes that offers us a little bit of hope.
Tho’Bi: We can go do Karaoke if you want. (beat) (beat) Sorry, that was a bit abrupt. (beat) I do that too when I’m nervous.
Alyndra removed her hand from his shoulder. She leaned one of the rooms great trees.. Or at least a giant stem of sorts.
Syrex: Nervous? Why are you
nervous?
Tho’Bi: Response
Syrex: That’s understandable. Honestly it is. Although I’m a doctor, I have some training in counselling too and you’d be surprised how similar your situation is to others.
Tho’Bi: Response
Syrex: How about this? We leave karaoke for when you feel a bit more confident. Karaoke is more fun that way! For now, why don’t we just take in the stillness of this place, together?
Alyndra slid down the stem of the plant she’d been leaning on. Crossing her legs and gesturing to the spot next to her for Tho’Bi to join her.
Tho’Bi: Response
Syrex: ::Smiling:: You’ll know when you’re ready. When you are, let me know.
Tho’Bi: Response
