((Main Engineering, Deck 15 - USS Artemis-A))

Gnai: This understands… one of the small programs that this made when at the Academy was of Galador II, as few others in the Federation have much experience with the planet. ::beat:: It helped with the homesickness at times, a little.

Imril shook their head bitterly.

Imril: It was never homesickness on my end. That project started from morbid curiosity about the stories and customs and cultures that were lost to a thousand years of a totalitarian regime. Buried or erased by monarchs that wanted to destroy any other way of living, of thinking, of being, than their own. Their hold over the world has crumbled, but the damage to the past has been done. Those fallen societies deserve to be remembered.

Ripples of excitement passed over Gnai’s filaments, shooing away any worry that the conversation might turn to Imril’s less-than-charitable thoughts on their so-called homeworld’s present or future.

Gnai: Ensign, you’re interested in old cultures and places, as you’ve said… Would you be interested in helping this try and create a program recreating something truly ambitious?

Now this offer sounded tempting! Imril swept their distaste for their so-called homeworld back into the darker corners of their mind to seize upon Gnai’s glee and their proposal.

Imril: I’m listening. Intently! I’m also switching to the water feed.

It took a few taps on the railing console to get things started, but soon the acids in the insubstantial pipes were replaced by cleansing water. Work that didn’t require more than a moment’s diversion from the conversation.

Gnai: Galadorans come from Galador II now, but in the past, eons ago… The original homeworld of Galador has long been destroyed, but it might be an interesting project to try and recreate it from histories passed down. ::beat:: If you would be interested and willing to partake in such a challenge with this.

Imril: Oh, that’s very interesting! I’d love to help with that! Thanks for considering me. For trusting me with something so precious.

Gnai: response

Imril: But first, I’ll set up for the electroplating. ::Tapping on the console:: I’m adding some pinpoint conduit lines to the insides of the ‘plumbing’. ::More tapping::: Then I energize them with electromagnetic pulses. ::More tapping::: Then, I add trace metals to the water. These will be attracted to, fuse to, and fill in the gaps and cuts caused by the pollen. ::more tapping::

As Imril spoke, a series of pencil-lead-thin lines of blue energy came into being within the flowing rounds of fluid which surrounded Gnai. Pulsing with bulbs of white light, these lines danced along the lines and curves of the exosuit, moving from one trouble spot to the next as each received some degree of restoration.

Gnai: response

The process at this point was largely automated. There was little to do for a while but talk of Gnai’s project. And Imril had so many questions! The excitement showed through in their voice, their words spoken a little bit faster.

Imril: For this historical program, what kinds of sources do you have to work from?

Gnai: response
