((Docking Port 06 - Deep Space Nine))
The last few shore leaves had seen Savel spending the majority of his time on the ship. He rarely joined anyone for any excursions off of the ship, exploring the planets that they were orbiting. In short, he'd missed out on quite a lot of unique experiences since he was stationed on the Artemis, which was rather illogical since one of the biggest reasons he joined Starfleet was for that very reason.
That meant it was a no-brainer for him to take Talos up on his offer to have people come along with him on the Gamma Quadrant tour. Not only would he get a chance to leave the Artemis for a while, but he'd get to visit a part of the galaxy he'd never had the opportunity to go to. There was only one problem.
oOWhat do I wear?Oo
The Vulcan had spent so much of his time on the ship working that he had become accustomed to wearing his Starfleet uniform. The gold-topped shirt, single pip, and combadge had become a daily occurrence. It was difficult to decide what attire was appropriate for a trip through a wormhole.
He opted for a pel-el that was not entirely unlike his regular Starfleet shirt in how the left side folded over the right. Instead of it being gold over black, however, it was entirely a light shade of gray with a unique pattern in its stitching all around it. His pants were over a similar color though lacking any sort of additional designs to them.
With his outfit settled, Savel beamed over to DS9 and headed towards the docking port that Talos had mentioned in his invitation. As he arrived, he saw the brief conversation between the mother and child.
Child: I don’t want to go in the wormy-hole! That’s scary!
Mother: It’s a wormhole Avhan, and it’s ok to be afraid. But we can’t let our fear keep us from exploring. You are safe with me.
A brief glance was offered to the child that was comforted by their mother that they were clinging to, but most of his attention went to Talos that reacted to his arrival. Savel approached and joined him in the queue.
Dakora: Mister Savel. ::He beamed.:: I was wondering if anyone from the Artemis was going to take me up on this offer.
Savel: You can cease your wondering, Commander, I have indeed arrived to join you on this tour.
There was something about getting tossed back in time to meet your boss' mother and fight in a war with her that had a tendency to create a bond between two people. Even being a Vulcan, Savel was not immune to this, and he'd started to see Talos as more than just his First Officer and a Lieutenant Commander. Even if those descriptors were primary.
Dakora: I see. ::He shrugged.:: I’ve never had a chance to make it to the Gamma Quadrant and since we were right here, on leave, I figured I had no excuse. Besides, I hear this NGB Tours outfit is the real deal. I hear they've even got exclusive access to some of the yet-uncharted areas.
Savel: Should that be true, then this will be a very intriguing tour indeed.
He didn't mean to be a skeptical downer on purpose but, well, Vulcan.
There was a short hiss from the docking port hatch as it opened and a Bolian stepped through to start checking in everyone. As the line dwindled down and passengers boarded, the line shuffled forward. So far, Talos and Savel were the only two people from the Artemis there.
Dakora: I wonder if anyone else from the Artie is going to make it?
Savel: I am unsure. I have not spoken to anyone about his particular trip. There could be any number of additional companions or we could be the only two to partake.
An astute observation, as always.
Any: Response
As they continued to move closer to the kiosk, Savel looked back over to Talos.
Savel: It is possible that others are nervous about joining the two of us in a shuttle given how our last flight together ended. An illogical fear, to be sure, but most of them are.
It wasn't the light topic one would expect in small talk while in line for a tour, nor was it the kind of comforting thing someone would want to hear before they flew through a wormhole. But, it was the first thing Savel thought of to say.
Dakora/Any: Response
Savel: Very well, I will not bring that up here. Besides, it is safe to assume that we will not be chased and shot at by the Dominion. A tourist ship is not their normal target of choice.
The talk from the Vulcan easily caught the attention of the already nervous child, who immediately went wide-eyed at hearing a few words of what Savel said. Specifically, he took issue with "Dominion" and "shot by". Understandable.
Child: Moooom! What is that man talking about? Are we really gonna get shooted at?
The kid was practically trying to crawl up his mom in an attempt to feel some sense of safety around her. It caused the mom to shoot an intense glare at Savel that should have said something along the lines of "Shut up, can't you see he's already scared?" but that was too much subtext for the Vulcan to pick up on.
Mother: Of course not, Avhan. He doesn't know what he's talking about. I promise, we'll be totally fine. Like I said, you'll always be safe with me.
Dakora: Response
Avhan seemed to be a bit more calmed down now, but it was clear that he wanted nothing to do with Savel and he did his best to position himself as far away as he could while staying attached to his mother.
Savel: Commander, I would suggest that we not sit close to them when it is our turn to board. I believe the reasons are obvious.
Dakora/Any: Response
