(( Elysium – Deck 6, USS
Artemis ))
With the trio of command officers now secluded in a quiet corner of the Elysium, they found themselves comforted both by the view of Risa below them, visible through the large window next to their seats, and the depth of their friendship that had developed through their service together. MacKenzie took a sip of her Sapphire Wine, her attention half focused on the beauty of the planet and half on the pair seated across from her.
Nicholotti: What have I missed?
Addison raised an
eyebrow. That was certainly a loaded question. She took a deep
breath in through her nose and out through her mouth, puffing her cheeks as she
did so to indicate the heft of the question.
MacKenzie: Oh, relief efforts on the Da’al homeworld after a meteor
strike, another run in with CloQ… And an encounter with alternate versions of
ourselves from another universe.
Genkos pursed his lips sternly.
Adea: Hmm… yes, they’ve met.
Given the look and the nod she got from Nicholotti, it wasn’t a pleasant event.
Nicholotti: Indeed we have.
Addison took another sip of her wine before she tipped her glass at Genkos.
MacKenzie: Speaking of, they ever catch that doppelganger of yours?
Genkos gave Kalianna’s shoulder a squeeze. Addison didn’t know what transpired
between Kali and Shint-Genkos, but it must have been more serious than she
thought if it warranted Genkos offering her a physical gesture of reassurance.
Adea: Not yet - he went to ground after his visit to Kalianna… ::he sighed:: There’s been no sign of him, so he’s either hiding somewhere outside the Federation, or I am having an amazing career on Starbase 80 without my knowledge.
With a raised eyebrow, Kali laughed.
Nicholotti: I dare say the universe
is only big enough for one of you.
Addison rolled her eyes and shook her head.
MacKenzie: Having two of you running around the galaxy is tricky
business. At least my murderous double went back to their universe.
Genkos ran his tongue over his top teeth,
shaking his head back in response.
Adea: Only because you’re more devious in this universe, whereas I’m more devious in that one.
He smirked at her, a light twinkle in his eye.
MacKenzie: Listen…
Nicholotti: He's not wrong.
She shot a look of shock and exasperation at Nicholotti’s mock-betrayal..
Adea: What about with you, Kalianna, what’s new with you?
Nicholotti: New? Nothing much really It's the same universe trying the same things to kick my tail. Only this time it's aboard the Eagle instead of the Excal.
Only a short time had
transpired since she'd taken command of the Eagle, but it seemed like a lot of
things had happened. The move had been pretty sudden, as Denali's former CO had
transferred back to civilian life pretty abruptly, but she'd managed to keep
things within the description of 'controlled chaos'.
Addison nodded slowly.
MacKenzie: You know, you’d think
the universe would be about tired of trying to kill you by now.
Her research had saved the Commodore’s life once, and the woman had had more
close encounters before they had met.
Adea: Response
Nicholotti: I managed to get the Eagle stuck on land.
Nicholotti shot them a mischievous
grin. Addison’s eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to recall information from
her brain.
MacKenzie: I think I was on the Eagle once… It was when Oddas
Aria had been promoted to Captain. (beat) I think I had just been posted to the
Veritas at that point…
She shot a look between them as though to suggest it was impossible that so
much time had passed since then.
Adea: Response
Nicholotti: We found a zoo planet. Literally humans from every time period imaginable, all in their own 'exhibits'. Whoever set it up left a long time ago, and the barriers began to fail. That's when the SOS got out.
Her head lowered, attention
rapt listening to Nicholotti recall the story.
MacKenzie: That sounds awful.
Adea/Nicholotti: Responses?
Addison sat back in her chair, allowing her back to sink into the plush
cushion.
MacKenzie: Are you at least enjoying the new boat for now? I’m sure the thing
has to be easier to parallel park than the Excal…
Adea/Nicholotti: Responses?
