( Primary Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))
Morgan: Well, I refuse to believe that you’re in pain for no reason. I do think I’ve got something here…
The Acting Chief Medical Officer turned the tricorder around to show him the scan. On the display, a thin shard was visible, just underneath the surface of the skin. It looked to be so thin, in fact, that one might not have been able to tell it punctured the skin, in much the same way when you get a tiny splinter. This splinter, though, appeared to be far more nefarious as it was pressing against a nerve.
Morgan: This little guy right here seems to be giving you a bit of trouble. It’s so thin you likely wouldn’t have even been able to see an entrance wound. Fortunately, I’m not picking up any internal bleeding, so I think you’re likely just experiencing some nerve irritation.
Imril wasn't the best at interpreting medical scans, but the shape disclosed to Imril didn’t readily seem to match the crystalline structure consistent with Kobyar infrastructure.
Imril: Makes sense.
They frowned as they spoke, concerned at the implication that the invader wasn’t native to Galaris IV.
Morgan: Well, I sure wouldn’t want it to stay in there permanently – I definitely don’t think it’s going to make anything better… ::pausing:: I can take it out right now for you, if ya like.
Had he interpreted Imril’s frown for reluctance to go through with the medical procedure? Far from it.
Imril: Yes. Please. Get it out. Can I have it when you’re done? In a sample container or whathaveyou?
Morgan: Response
Imril: I need to run a molecular analysis, to confirm where it came from. A lot of my repair work has revolved around testing a new kind of integrity field generator that I’ve been developing. I’ve been spending a lot of time around distressed metal, microfractures… If that ‘splinter’ got into me on the ship while I was working to short part of it up, then there’s a part of the ship that might not be safe to be working in without protective gear.
Scanning the piece, with an engineering tricorder, free of any of their own biological material could prove very useful in determining if Imril had mistakenly ‘cleared’ a section of the ship which they’d worked upon.
Morgan: Response
Imril: I may not be the only one with something like this in me, or at risk of it. The possibility that there are more of ::pointing to the scan:: those laying around a workspace somewhere needs to be investigated, and that’s how I can do it.
The thought that someone might have kicked up and breathed in one of these splinters was particularly disquieting.
Morgan: Response
Imril:::Nodding:: Yeah. Let’s get it out, and then worry about what it is.
They removed their duty jacket and hiked up the shirt underneath a little. Then laid back down on the biobed, ready for the extraction.
