((Geology Lab - Science Center - USS Artemis-A))
Having the new XO come in and crash Sam’s one lady research party was not what she had expected to happen that day. Regardless, the woman seemed nice and Sam was just about to wrap up her work anyway. Munro had taken a look at the project sitting behind the scientist.
Richards: Oh, just some research swapping with some fellow scientists on 224. Asteroids and such.
She knew better than to overly explain research to an unsuspecting victim, so she tried to keep things light.
Munro: I’m sure it’s fascinating. I’ll take your word on that :: raises her hands in apology :: Which is a fault of mine.
Sam lightly waved away the apology and pivoted the conversation.
Richards: So, you out just getting a feel for the ship before we head out again? How are things so far?
She sucked at small talk, but she gave it a valiant effort to not be too awkward.
Munro: Yes, I’ve been haunting the decks the last few days. I always think there’s something unique about every starship that sets it apart from its sister ships. Have you ‘served’ on many ships?
Richards: ::Shaking her head:: Nope. The Artemis is my first. Before this I was on Amity Outpost.
Her hand moved down to her stomach as she felt a kick and a nudge from one of the babies.
Munro: Amity? Isn’t that the Delta Quadrant?
Richards: Yep! Good old far far away Delta Quadrant.
The Commander nodded and indicated Sam’s very obvious pregnant belly. In turn Sam rested both hands on her bump and smiled.
Munro: My daughter was born on the Endeavour, and sho’s now in her first year at the Academy :: impish smile :: Where she was also conceived. She doesn’t like me telling people that. So, you know, I tell as many people as I can. That’s the true gift of motherhood, being a constant source of embarrassment to your children.
It was a bit surprising to hear the woman was a mother, but a welcome surprise. A small sense of kindred spirits. Even if the Commander’s daughter was an adult, maybe she would have some insight for the soon-to-be mom.
Richards: I’ll keep that in mind. ::Chuckling lightly:: If I’m still here when the twins are older, I will be sure to let everyone know they were conceived on the Artemis. In the– ::Stopping herself:: – On the ship. ::Beat then a smirk:: Maybe I won’t tell the Captain though. I don’t fancy the idea of getting up close and personal with the airlock.
She nodded and laughed awkwardly after quickly deciding that the new XO probably wasn’t interested in hearing that the twins were not only conceived on the ship– but in the XO’s quarters.
Some things are just better left unsaid.
Munro: Response
Richards: Twins, yeah. ::Rubbing up and down her bump and smiling:: They are actually a bit responsible for you being here. Their father was the XO you took over for. We are all really happy to have you.
There were still a handful of adjustments the couple were going through with Talos taking the Sixth House up on their request for him to be fairly hands on with his new Nobility responsibilities. Though, it seemed they found themselves an excellent woman to step into the First Officer role.
Munro: Response
Richards: It’s been a bit of an adjustment for everyone I assume.
