(( Science Lab - Deck 8, Afalqi ))

Tamio revisited their final thoughts before beaming aboard the Afalqi less than twenty minutes ago. Something about it being ludicrously dangerous and prone to failure, and whomsoever had come up with the idea needed their checked. At least, that’s how they remembered it - and quite vividly too - as the Afalqi was struck by weapons fire and everything within the unpopulated science lab was thrown haphazardly around, including the three Starfleet officers.

It was clear that time was of the essence, and Gavrin, ever the hard worker, was already busying himself with procuring the technology they’d come here to find: scanning tech that would allow them to interface more properly with the vessel around them. Ava, meanwhile, was tending to her wounds, and Tamio approached her as she knelt over the engineering kit’s emergency aid materials.

Munro: Give me a second.

They shook their head quietly.

K’Wara: We need to hurry. If the Artemis doesn’t get into the firefight soon, we’re going to be spacedust.

Tarsan: Working as fast as I can, Commander. Trust me I don’t want to be spacedust.

For a brief moment, Tamio forgot that the word ‘Commander’ now technically applied to them as well.

oO Still not getting used to that. Oo

Munro: You’re doing great. Keep doing that. I used to listen to a Nausicaan band called Spacedust :: smiles with a wince :: They’re really good.

K’Wara: Alas, my musical talents are nil, so my points that we’d make poor spacedust material stands.

Ava climbed to her feet and approached a nearby corner, pushing her shoulder against it to pop a dislocated joint back in place as she screamed what sounded like profanities into the air. Tamio wondered how many scraps you had to have been in to just casually do that. Granted, the CO/XO chairs of any given starship were notorious for the lack of seatbelt, so perhaps it spoke more to the quality of the pilots she’d served with than Ava’s proclivity for fisticuffs.

At least, that’s what they chose to believe.

Tarsan: I think I might have something… only problem is I need to activate it.

When Ava turned and smiled at them, Tamio nodded.

K’Wara: Fit for fight again?

Munro: All good. For now. I reckon Roy wouldn’t be so happy with that assessment but I don’t have the luxury to care what the doc might think. :: she turned to Tarsan :: Let’s see what you’ve got.

The two senior officers now joined the enterprising ensign, who held up two new devices with a look of triumphant relief on his face.

Tarsan: Looks like we’re in business

Munro: You think this will help us control the ship? How many do you think we’ll need?

K’Wara: No way to know for certain, though one each should be enough for the more menial operations of doors and the like, surely?

Tarsan: I only can find two but that should be enough for what we need. ::looking at the kit with the counter agent in it, tone turning grim:: Now I guess we need to find somewhere to use this?

Ava handed them one of the devices Tarsan had been tinkering with, their fingers running over the smooth metallic surface. No visible buttons, but presumably, they acted as a sort of amplifier for Gavrin’s energy manipulator.

Munro: You two will use the devices if we need to. Is there any way we can deploy Ensign Breys concoction to disable the pilots? That could give us some leverage.

K’Wara: We’re on the medical level. On the Artemis, the machinery that maintains the oxygen concentration for life support can be accessed both from Ops and from Sickbay, in case of deckwide quarantines. It would make sense to-

They were interrupted as another shout came over the intercom, and while it was almost as intelligible as the shout before it, they all knew what it meant at this point, and quickly braced for another impact. The time for deliberations was drawing to a close.

Munro: Let’s move :: looks to the devices :: Those devices might allow you to access the ships systems.

K’Wara: If we can work them effectively. ::looks to Tarsan:: Think you know enough about these to give me a rundown on how to use it without you feeding it the right frequencies?

Tarsan: Response

Tamio listened to Gavrin’s analysis, looking over the device as he explained. Ultimately, their ability to handle the device was very impeded due to the lack of mental abilities, but they would have to make it work.

Munro: Are you both okay?

Ava rejoined them - her wound now properly stitched up - and Tamio nodded.

K’Wara: No worse for wear on my part, though that can change. Starting to feel mighty encumbered between engineering kits, phaser rifles, Da’al scanners and knockout concoction though…

Tarsan: Response

Munro: I can be your arms. Treat me like a tool.

Oh, the gloriousness of that moment wouldn’t be forgotten for a long time, as Tamio raised a coquettish eyebrow at Ava, who in turn did not miss a beat.

Munro: That wasn’t meant to sound … :: awkward pause :: Never mind. Just guide me.

Tarsan: Response

K’Wara: ::pats Gavrin’s shoulder:: Good choice. All right, I’ll take point. Let’s find the Sickbay on this boat so we can ensure the Afalqi doesn’t participate in this battle.

They stuck their head out of the science lab, their head on a swivel, and it wasn’t until they were certain that whoever had screamed out here previously had truly gone that Tamio led the others out and down the hallway. They didn’t remember the schematics that well, but general starship design philosophy meant that there were a couple of areas on a givens starship that had to be very easy to find:

The Bridge, the escape pods and Sickbay.

Tarsan/Munro: Response

Tamio had to admit, they weren’t looking forward to having to manage the Afalqi between just the three of them if they truly did manage to knock out every Da’al pilot aboard. They hoped it didn’t have to come to that.

K’Wara: If we could convince every Ship thief on this boat to surrender to arrest calmly and peacefully, that would be preferable, but considering what we know of the lot of them, I’d rather not take chances.

Their search was made remarkably easier by the fact that those impacts from what they’d originally presumed to be active combat had lessened dramatically, and in fact completely ceased.

Tarsan/Munro: Response

K’Wara: Not sure, but let’s count our lucky stars that it is. ::checks with the scanner:: Found it. Side door into Sickbay. ::quiets:: Wait.

Pesho: ::muffled conversation:: -ucky it’s not wors-

Figures Sickbay would be the one place with people there in this circumstance.

Tarsan/Munro: Response
