(( Recovery Wing – Primary Sickbay, Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))
The door chime announced Gila’s arrival at the temporary residence of Lieutenant Commander Robin Hopper. Ordinarily, she’d have been sent off to Earth to join up with her crew so Starfleet could have them ferried back to the Delta Quadrant - Amity Outpost was no doubt very concerned about the well-being of a good half of their senior Starfleet officers - but Lieutenant Commander Hopper was, unfortunately, not quite yet cleared for travel yet. It was dumb luck - and xenobiological marvels - which had prevented the half-Centauran woman from being KIA during Frontier Day, and now, she was paying the price for that.
While Gila had been otherwise occupied on Earth, Commander Adea and the rest of the Artemis’ very competent medical team had seen to Lt. Commander Hopper’s physical therapy, and by Artemisian standards, she’d proven a remarkably pliant patient. No need to chase her down in the hallways, no complaints with even the most mundane of exercises that would often be met with a ‘surely you’re joking’ by even the most patient of practitioners? By all accounts, Lt. Commander Hopper was the model patient. Which only terrified Gila further. If she completely botched this check-up with the most pliant of patients, it would become more than apparent to everyone that she was a fraud and a pretender, and she’d be shipped right on back to Earth to go die under a skyscraper.
And considering that such a prospect would’ve been preferable to Starfleet service less than a week ago, the fact that Gila found herself getting anxious at the prospect was either a sign of regression or evidence of improvement. Gila couldn’t decide which…
Hopper: Response
Gila moved into the room as permitted by the Lt. Commander. Despite Gila realizing that it was technically Lt. Commander Hopper who was the guest at the moment, Gila still found it incredibly uncomfortable to be imposing herself upon this space that the Centauran called her temporary home while staying with them. Granted, the two of them did know each other. The two had been introduced by shared acquaintances during a scientific conference on Velestus, and had proceeded to spend much of the day in each other’s company. It had been interesting, getting to know someone serving in as remote a location as the Delta Quadrant, but Gila hadn’t expected to have the opportunity to deepen their relationship beyond remotely acquainted colleagues. And then, Lt. Commander Hopper got transwarped right into her face - figuratively - aboard the Board Cube, and now, here they were…
All in all, probably the third strangest familiarity trajectories Gila’d experienced during her time in Starfleet.
Sadar: H-Hello, Lt. Commander. How are you doing today?
Hopper: Response
Gila slowly nodded. Well, an answer that could be expected from someone with Lt. Commander Hopper’s disposition.
Sadar: Good news: we’re entering the final stretch of your treatment plan before you can be cleared for travel. ::slight smile:: You and LT Richards will be back with familiar faces soon.
Hopper: Response
Eager for something to occupy herself to seem less out of place, Gila referenced the PADD with the list for Lt. Commander Hopper’s appointment for the day. It was quite unnecessary, honestly, as Gila had memorized it by now… She’d sat through a not insignificant amount of shuttle rides between Earth and the Artemis, since most of the transporter systems were still being taken apart and updated after the cause of Frontier Day’s mass assimilation had been discovered.
Sadar: ::awkward clearing of throat:: Well, uhh... I-I’ll be in charge of your treatment today. We’ll be doing another round of PEP, Kinetic Regeneration and Incentive Spirometry. ::looks up:: Uhh... D-Do you need me to run through the therapies again?
She knew that some patients got used to their programs quite quickly, but she also knew that some patients heard medical terms and immediately forgot they’d ever heard them before. Not unlike most 1st year students at the Medical Academy...
