((Havun’s office, Afalqi Project Launch Complex, Meranuge IV))

Inertia and momentum.

Unfortunate enemies.

Alex had felt the momentum building.  They had discovered something.  The problem was she didn’t know exactly what that something was - yet.

Jaran: Ta’Mora is gone. No idea if anything useful came of it at all, but we did what we could. Any luck over here?

Storm: We’ve made a couple of discoveries, but I’ll let Ollie go first.

Bergmen: Response

Jaran: That sounds promising!

Storm: And I pulled DNA and fingerprints off the data device that Havun was using. If we want to know who Havun was working with—or who wanted him gone—we’ll need access to the Da’al archives.

Jovenan: Send the data to the Artemis. We’ll have to request the Da’al authorities for an access or for them to do the analysation for us. I don’t know the specifics of their biometric data privacy legislation.

Bergmen: Response

Storm: Without that access… we’re working blind.

Jovenan: Are we? ::turn to Jaran and Bergmen:: How much can we figure out about the person from the DNA and fingerprint samples, or from the transporter data?

With that one question, Alex felt the shift from momentum to inertia.

Jaran/Bergmen: Response

Or maybe not inertia.

Maybe they were simply downshifting for more power.  Her eyes twinkled.

Storm:  Ollie’s right.  DNA can tell us some things, but other things DNA can't give a complete picture of.  It wasn’t encoded with a specific height.  It might be able to tell you build, but epigenetics play a big role in what that build looks like.  You won’t find that in the DNA.

Jovenan: We have to figure out who he has been in contact with and what’s up with the transporter data. If they were Mister Havun’s colleague or someone else close to him, there might be DNA traces somewhere in here to compare them against. In this room or in this building. ::pause:: We should also try to figure out where the transporter data came from. It might give us a clue for where they are right now.

Storm:  The transporter data was found in his communication logs.  ::turning to Ollie, Alex tipped her head.:: Okay….

She wasn’t sure where the thought intruded from, but the words, “Boy Wonder” almost slipped out of her lips.

Unprofessional, Yeah, so noted?

Completely accurate - at least based on appearance?

Definitely!

Checking herself, she smoothed the next word out of her mouth instead.

Storm:  Lieutenant, do you think you could pull a location tag out of that mess?

Jaran/Bergmen: Response

Jovenan: It might be worth it checking how much of the DNA is actually Da’al. Ms Ta’Mora mentioned that her device needed to, um, connect to another system with weird specifications. That sounds suspiciously… offworld.

Storm:  That’s a good find.  Did she know what kind of system?

Jaran/Bergmen: Response

Alex started to lean against a cabinet, but her back connected - softly - with a pile.  She had to ease herself up to keep it from toppling over.  oO Who can live like this? Oo

Shifting her weight from one foot to another, she continued.

Storm:  So you’re thinking that if we can read the DNA enough to pick up a species, that’ll point us in the right direction.  Brilliant.

She pulled her tricorder out again and tapped a few more buttons, mentally chiding herself for not having thought to check for a different species.

Bergmen/Jaran/Jovenan: Response

Alex’s nose twitched.

Storm:  Damn.  The DNA is degraded.

She tapped a few more keys.

Storm:  Wait. Okay, partially degraded.  We won’t likely be able to find a complete match.

Bergmen/Jaran/Jovenan: Response

A big smile wrapped across Alex’s face.

Storm:  Hey.  I didn’t say it didn’t give us anything.  It did give me a DNA family, and it looks like it’s Romulan or Vulcan.

In her mind, Alex could almost hear the rev of an engine.

Bergmen/Jaran/Jovenan: Response
