(( Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis ))
A Captain’s relationship with their crew was often complicated – boundaries needed
to be placed to maintain professionalism and the line between leader and subordinate,
while not making the leader to be an isolationist and unapproachable. For
Addison MacKenzie, that relationship was further complicated – she was known
for having high standards and being practically impossible to please,
especially for those who’d been part of her classes at the Academy. Her reputation
for being a hardass came from a place of holding her crew to the standards for
which she knew they were capable, whether they themselves had that same level
of self-awareness.
Gila Sadar was no exception.
Despite their complicated relationship, the majority of Starfleet had been
through a traumatic event – while it was a shared experience, each of them had
their own experience of Hell that day. For those who were on the Artemis,
she knew what they’d been through, but for those crew members who were
stationed elsewhere, the only reference she had for their experiences were what
she could read in the official reports.
And so, here she was, ever the hardass, trying to figure out Gila believed in fun.
MacKenzie: What do you do when you’re not working? Like, for fun.
Sadar: ::blinks in confusion:: F-Fun, Sir?
Her eyes narrowed.
MacKenzie: Yes, fun, Gila…
Sadar: I, uhh... ::eyes rapidly moving from side to side::
P-P-Please don’t p-put me on forced leave, Sir. I-I promise I’m doing okay!
Addison blinked.
MacKenzie: ::flatly:: You’re not getting put on leave, Lieutenant. But
you also can’t spend your whole life hiding in your work. What do you do for fun?
Do have hobbies??
Sadar: I-I like art. I cook… I sew?
Her eyes narrowed.
MacKenzie: Are you asking me, or telling me, Lieutenant? ::shaking her
head:: You sew? Have you ever sold your garments?
Sadar: O-Oh, no, I’m very much an amateur, Sir.
I-It’s just, uhh... It’s something to get my mind to focus on the process.
E-Empty my head, as it were.
MacKenzie: I see, I see… What do you like to cook? I’m quite partial to
Bajoran hasparat, but part of what I love about Starfleet is the potential to
try new cuisine wherever we travel. Are there any Mizarian dishes you enjoy
cooking??
Sadar: Response
She would file that away for later.
MacKenzie: If you like museums and art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in
New York is one of the best on Earth. At least, it used to. …assuming it wasn’t
destroyed by the Borg.
A slight, mischievous smile crept on the corners of her face.
MacKenzie: We should go! The fresh air will do you good.
Sadar: Response
Tag, and TBC!
