((Sacred Marketplace - Ferenginar))

((OOC - I used this map))

((Tacky Tarog’s Toys Trinkets and Tames - Sacred Marketplace - Ferenginar))

Ava lifted up two suits. One a golden colour, and the other green.

Munro: I'll take these. How many slips of latinum?

Ferengi Salesman: :: smiles politely and a little nervously :: Slips? These are 2 bars of gold pressed latinum. Each.

Munro: :: blank stare :: Let me work that out.

Ava began to do mental arithmetic as she adjusted the allocated stipend. She had already spent an awful lot at the Slug-nasium. She had zero personal latinum reserves.

While she done this, the Ferengi turned their attention to Jovenan.

Ferengi Salesman:  And yourself ma'am? A Mugato for you?

Jovenan: Uh… No, I’d like two of these Mugato suits, please. For the babies.

The salesman clasped his hands together in apparent excitement.

Ferengi Salesman: Excellent choice! They are very high quality, all your business partners will be jealous of how cute and well-dressed your offspring will be! We could say… a bar of gold pressed latinum for both.

When Jovenan looked to her for guidance, she shrugged and then carefully nodded. She had already decided that it was easier just to give in with her own negotiations. This ‘money’ business was not for her. She could see why her species gave it centuries ago, it felt unnatural to her.

How does one apply value to items? She's never met two people who felt exactly the same about anything - then again, maybe that was the point of bartering. All very confusing.

Jovenan: How about, um, two strips each?

She hasn't expected Jovenan to negotiate and it was a pleasant surprise, as a show of support he straightened her back and attempted to look more like she knew what the whole concept of money even was.

Munro: I think that's a :: cautious :: fair price?

The corner of the salesman’s lips twitched, but his uncannily friendly smile persisted.

Ferengi Salesman: Very good offer, ma’am, I can see that you are an experienced negotiator! However, I can’t come that low. You have to understand, the Mugato fur merchants control the markets and are very persistent on using their unethical products. It is very expensive to acquire faux furs of this quality behind their backs. Surely you would want to support such an ethical product in that competition!

The thought of a Mugato being hunted for fur disgusted Ava to her core. Which she figured was the point of bringing it up in the first place. When Jovenan glanced at her again, she clearly knew the Commander was a lost cause and would be no help. Ava had a headache and was willing to spend her entire stipend to just exit the shop empty handed.

Jovenan: Three strips each?

Ferengi Salesman: And the employees! Employment is very expensive right now. If the profits stay the same, what will happen to our dental plans?

Now he was taking it a little too far.

Jovenan: Four strips each.

The salesman grasped Jovenan’s hand and shook it.

Ferengi Salesman: Deal! Now, anything else for the two of you? We have a great selection of all kinds of toys, trinkets, games and more, and for such good negotiators, I can offer a generous personal discount of 5 percent for the rest of your stay!

Jovenan: Should we get something for Suzie? And… ::looks around:: Well. Do you think we can find something for our other friends here, or if we should try somewhere else?

Munro: That means I have to work out 5 percent less and adjust slips and bars, and for taxes… :: smiles politely :: I think we'll circle back.

Ferengi Salesman: You won't find better quality goods than here! Not in all of Ferenginar!

Jovenan: Response

Munro: I understand that but we should really get our gifts wrapped…

The Ferengi provided them with his best service smile and took the items.

Ferengi Salesman: I can wrap these for you :: beat :: There’s a fee for this :: points to sign :: 1 slip of latinum.

Ava looked to the sign, she wasn't sure if she had noticed that before or it somehow had appeared after the purchase was made. Ferengi's knew how to get every potential profit from anyone by any means.

Munro: Of course.

Jovenan: Response

After the Ferengi left them alone to pack their goods she turned to Jovenan.

Munro: To think on Earth in the 20th century this was an everyday experience. I don't know about you but I feel like finding one of those cosy market venues that sell mulled wine from the advertisements. You fancy it?

Jovenan: Response
