Ens Chevalier - Tripping forward

Jaseb opened his eyes and smiled at him.

Chevalier: Did I make it? Did a leg move?

Benny's warm smile and confident nod eloquently conveyed his assent.

Cliffhigh: Yes it did. But more importantly it moved naturally.

Benny’s words put a smile on Jaseb's face. He gazed at his artificial leg and back at the physiotherapist.

Chevalier: One step at a time, on the road to victory, yes? Basically, every step forward counts until it's one step forward and two back.

Benny carefully straightened up Jaseb’s leg, getting him ready for the next exercise.

Cliffhigh: You are basically learning to walk again without having to think to take a step forward. And that isn’t just a physical adjustment. Now ready for another challenge?

Jaseb eagerly nodded in agreement as Benny rose from his seat and extended his arms wide open.

Cliffhigh: Why don’t you try and stand? Again don't force it, just feel it. I will catch you if you lose balance.

Jaseb began to focus on his prosthetic leg, which moved slightly back towards him, slowly bending at the knee. He closed his eyes and concentrated. The leg bent slightly, and the foot touched the floor. He tried to stand up, but the support of his new leg failed him. As he leaned against her, she began to drift away, unable to bear the weight as he held onto the chair.

He looked at Benny, and nodded.

Chevalier: Let me try it again.

He let out a deep sigh, gazing down at his leg as he observed it bending from the foot all the way up to the chair. He braced his hands against the back of the chair and pushed himself up to stand. Beads of sweat began to form on his forehead from all the effort, but he succeeded, and the ensign was eventually able to stand upright.

A second later, as he tried to keep his balance, he had to trip, and unfortunately, he chose his good leg. He quickly stepped back as he braced himself back and leaned to balance, only to tip his balance and fall forward instead onto his back, landing in Benny's arms.

Chevalier: Agh… It didn't turn out as I expected. Sorry.
