((Main Thoroughway, Old Trail Town – Holodeck 1, Deck 2, USS Artemis))
Munro: Let's go find some bandits!
Thunder seemed to be the only one to take that statement with any seriousness and trotted forward at a pace, she let out a hesitant laugh as she pulled on the reigns before looking back at the others.
Silveira: And if that doesn’t work I have a few things for us to cook us a picnic.
Ava rolled her eyes, these people were in desperate need of some real fun. She snickered mischieviously, she had a feeling there wouldn't be much be much in the way of picnicking on this outting.
Silveira: Dammit I forgot one thing…. Beans…
Tamio let out a laughter.
K'Wara: Small mercies!
Jovenan: Don’t worry, Vitor. Maybe we’ll find someone who has beans in here, and if not, I’m sure you can create something delicious without them too.
Munro: We have company.
Ava tipped her head towards some riders that approached the horse salesman and by the attention they paid in their direction it was clear they were the subject of interest.
K'Wara: New friends?
Ava hoped the opposite. She patted her pistol. What was it that she had learnt when Boka had jokingly signed them up for a writer’s retreat? Something to do with Chekov, she remembered because one of the other cadets kept repeating the joke that it wasn’t the famous Starfleet officer Anton Chekov.
oO Chekov’s gun Oo
Well, she had the gun strapped to her side and she fully intended on using it.
Sheriff: Are you Silver? ::he looked at Munro, Nan and Tamio in turn:: Are you all with him?
Ava noticed the badge, and felt a surge of disappointment. These were the good guys.
Silveira: Why are you asking… Sheriff?
That was when Jovenan leaned in closer to her.
Jovenan: ::quietly, to Munro:: Sheriff?
Munro: Local law enforcement. Kind of like the Fenris Rangers.
The old Sheriff rode closer to them and offered his hand to Silveira. Tamio and Jovenan seemed tense, and she just focused on steadying Thunder who was eager to run.
Sheriff: Samson. Elias Samson. I'm the sheriff around here and when Hoss here ::he pointed to the Horse Trader:: said Silver was in town I had to come and shake your hand.
Silveira: The pleasure is mine, Sheriff Samson. Vitor Silver… At your service
Tamio turned to Jovenan and Munro with a grin.
K'Wara: Do the rest of us get fancy names too, or are we "Silver's Possé"?
Munro: I had the computer generate some appropriate names for us :: to Jovenan :: JoJo Wyatt :: Points to Tamio :: Tambourine Gracey :: shrugs :: Don’t ask me. Blame the Artemis. I’m Aveline Savage, so not much better.
Sheriff: I don't know what brings you to Cody, but please, allow me to offer you a drink at the Gilded Chairs.
K'Wara: Gee, I dunno, Sheriff. Silver here has some mighty important business to be attending to. You know, beans and such.
Jovenan: We might be limited in our time. ::looks up to the sky:: The Sol’s moving mighty fast.
oO the sol Oo
Ava stifled a laugh that threatened to spill out as she addressed the sheriff.
Munro: What’s in it for us, Sheriff? :: winks at the others ::
Silveira: Response
Sheriff: ::clearly put on the spot:: ... Of course. My apologies. Bounty hunters of your caliber pass through Cody so rarely, I got ahead of myself.
K'Wara: I mean, I guess we can at least hear him out?
Jovenan: ::shrugs:: Maybe he knows where the bandits are?
She was beginning to think they were too Starfleet for this holo-programme. Maybe Silveira had the best idea with a picnic. She felt the gun hit the top of her thigh and smiled.
Silveira: Response
K'Wara: Hey, you heard him. We're "bounty hunters". Shouldn't we live up to the rep? ::peers at Ava:: In the spirit of adventure, and all that?
That’s the attitude she’s looking for.
Munro: :: nod of approval :: Mayhem is part of this era. So I’ve heard. I mean, I’m no Earth historian but their most popular means of transport was beasts that could trample them to death. If that’s not chaos then I don’t know what is.
Silveira: Response
Nodding, Jovenan raised her voice and shouted after the Sheriff.
Jovenan: Hey, Mister Sheriff! ::rides closer:: We’ve reconsidered your kind offer.
Sheriff: How wonderful! Come with me, I’ll buy you all a round!
Munro: I was just getting thirsty.
Silveira/K’Wara: Response
They followed the Sheriff further into the town, passed several shop fronts. She noticed a hardware store called Jonty’s Nuts and Bolts, a tailor called Primrose Cuts and lastly the saloon named the The Gilded Chairs. She doubted that any actual establishments had these names, and the Artemis computer was just having a good laugh at their expense.
The dismounted from the horses, and left them tied up and enjoying water and some hay. She gave Thunder a pat before heading up the wooden steps to the saloon.
Ava beamed when she pushed opened the batwing doors to the saloon, she barely noticed them swing backwards because the sight was so intoxicating. Of course, she had seen the likes before in every dive bar she had ever been in, including the one on Naura but there something about the merriment of this era that immediately captured. A dozen or so men, gathered around quaint wooden tables. Card games were being played, on the centre of some of the tables were paper and coins. Behind the bar was a busty yet hardy woman, the only one in the entire establishment. A man played the piano, a very gleeful little tune that had Ava tapping her feet.
The Sheriff walked to the bar, leaning against it, and spoke to the woman behind it.
Sheriff: Bourbon! And a poison of choice for Mister Silver and his friends!
Ava followed the Sheriff, lifted her hand to indicate she wanted one as well.
Munro: Whisky. Neat.
Silveira/K’Wara: Response
Jovenan: Excuse me, do you have hot chocolate, please? ::to the Sheriff:: So, um, Mister Sheriff. Do you happen to know if there’s bounty to be hunted?
Oh Jovenan. She was too innocent for this world.
Sheriff: There are always criminals to be caught in these lands. But… ::pause, glances at each of them:: Well, I shouldn’t be saying this. If it were anyone else, I would be telling you to focus on those petty criminals or to go home, but with your reputation…
Munro: We know what we’re doing. JoJo here brought down the Montrose Brothers all by herself. She’s tougher than she looks.
Silveira/K’Wara/Jovenan: Response
Sheriff: :: nervously looks around :: … Well …
The crash startled her and she spun around. Behind them three men stood. The meanest was in the centre, the other two looked a lot less intelligent, missing teeth and she was sure she could smell them from here.
oO thanks Artemis Oo
Sheriff: Beanie this has nothing to do with you. Now get on with yourself. You and your cousins aren’t welcome here.
Silveira/K’Wara/Jovenan: Response
Beanie: We don’t take kindly to folks just sauntering into our town. Like they own the place. Some of us might have known the Montrose Brothers.
oO sorry Jovenan Oo
Munro: :: trying to sound tough :: You don’t want to start with us.
Beanie drew his gun. Even though it was a holodeck programme, there was still something dangerous about a gun being pointed at you. Which wasn’t the first time. She was reminded of the moment on the Boraxian Cityship she had a gun pointed at her head by the anarchists.
Silveira/K’Wara/Jovenan: Response
