(( Primary Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))

Befriending this ensign seemed to be going decently well, Vhysa’lia thought. He wasn’t outright hostile, at least, which was good. But he said strange things.

Vhysa’lia: So, I do have to ask. Crashcart? Where and how did you get saddled with that?

She’d never really picked up any nicknames during her time as a Kobali. Not that they didn’t exist, they just never ended up being bestowed one.

Bancroft: ::wry, matter-of-fact:: We’ll need a couple drinks – and Natasha Cole – for the real version. ::pausing:: If you prefer the comedy cut – rumor has it I once surfed a trauma cart down a corridor during a slow night on rotation. That is a scandalous exaggeration. ::a beat:: It was a controlled glide with excellent form.

Vhysa’lia: Oh, well, you might have to do all the drinking for us, doctor… But I definitely want to hear the real version some day.

Bancroft: Do you have a callsign I should know before I accidentally invent one? Or is “Doctor” your preferred brand across the board?

Vhysa’lia: ::with a note of uncertainty:: Not really, I guess. ::pause:: So, yes, “doctor” suits me just fine for the moment.

The way he said that, she presumed that before long, she might end up with her own “callsign”, like it or not.

Bancroft: ::lightly:: So tell me, what does Doctor Vhysa’lia do for fun when they’re not rescuing Ensigns from a double-shift of dullness? Please don’t say “chart audits”. My heart can only take so much excitement.

Vhysa’lia: Oh ::spreading their arms wide:: lots. What’s the point in getting a second chance at life, if you’re just going to do the same thing every day?

It would be a far too boring experience for even one life, let alone a second, to waste it with the monotony of routine.

Bancroft: Response

Vhysa’lia: One of my goals here is to try everything I can at least once. ::pause:: Within reason, of course. I have no desire to get airlocked for swimming in Cetacean Ops, no matter how tempting it might be.

Bancroft: Response

Vhysa’lia: Well, almost everything. My digestive system isn’t built to handle Earth foods… or really anything from this quadrant. ::sigh:: It’s a shame, as some of the things I’ve seen while strolling along Deep Space 224 really look incredible.

Bancroft: Response
