(( Captain's Ready Room - USS Artemis ))
One of the benefits of shore leave was the ability for a captain to be able to get to all of the accumulated junk that collects over the course of a tour that one doesn’t typically have time to get to during the normal oversight of a Starfleet vessel. In an odd turn of events, Addison found herself with ample time this leave, which allowed for her to focus on the really mundane tasks that even she didn’t like carrying out. In this case, the commanding officer of the Artemis found herself staring at the screen of her computer nearly bored to tears as she weeded her way through the thousands of unimportant subspace messages that had collected in her inbox over the last several years…
A welcome interruption,
the door chime rang.
MacKenzie: Come in!
The doors swooshed open and
noticeably pregnant Sam Richards walked in just as an automated voice message
started to play on her screen. Addison gestured to a chair and held up a finger in the hopes that it
would take only a moment.
Automated Voice: Hello! This is a courtesy message from the Advanced Starship Design Bureau. We’ve been trying to reach you about your starship's Extended Warranty.Your starship the USS- ARTEMIS-A has a warranty that expires after one five year mission or thirty thousand light years, whichever happens to occur first. Would you like to hear about our available options so you may continue to Bodly Go? Reply YES to receive these offers and continue the conversation with one of our knowledgeable ASDB representatives. Reply NO to opt into being constantly reminded and bothered by our automated systems.
Over the course of
the message, Addison slowly felt her head sink lower and lower until finally she
was face-down with her forehead resting on the desktop. Finally, when she was
sure the message was over, she lifted her head to a visibly amused Richards. MacKenzie
could only shake her head in resignation.
Richards: I can only imagine
how excited you are to have me back, and under more permanent conditions this
time.
MacKenzie: ::pointing at the screen:: I’m more excited to have you back than I am to have to listen to these messages. They make it so you can’t delete the message until you’ve suffered through the entire thing first…
Richards: Thank you for bringing me
on with the Science Department. Although, I will have to take a little bit of
time off in the fall. ::Rubbing her belly:: I tried to tell Talos he should
give birth to them, but he said no. Something about the “wrong
equipment”.
Sam shrugged and let out a
breathy laugh. Addison’s response was far snarkier.
MacKenzie: I’m not surprised in the slightest. Well, you know what they say when animals escape from their cages… ::shrugging:: That ship has sailed anyway. Happy to have you back.
Richards: Response
MacKenzie: So, have you given any thought about to which department you’d like to be assigned? I don’t recall offhand what your area of scientific expertise is.
Richards: Response
MacKenzie smiled and
nodded.
MacKenzie: I’m sure Commander Jovenan will appreciate the assistance. I’m
also curious how you feel about serving here as a civilian alongside the other
enlisted crew members. If I’m honest, this is a new situation for me,
considered largely because of your ::gesturing to her stomach:: unique circumstances.
Richards: Response
Tag, and TBC!
