(( Conference Room - Intel Suite, Deck 08, USS Artemis-A ))

Gila realized that she was very poor at hiding how she felt. Lying didn’t come naturally to her, nor did obscuring her emotions. Sometimes, that made her a more trustworthy Doctor. Other times, it meant that the already perpetually nervous and offensively stubborn patients saw her growing discomfort with their never-ending chatter and presumed it was because they’d developed an incurable version of their simple sinus infection, despite the fact that incurable diseases were a thing of the last century in the Federation.

In this particular case, her inability to keep her emotions hidden was concerning the Commander, who knew her probably better than most. Gila had shown herself from her most shameful in front of him multiple times - including when she almost resigned her commission after the CloQ incident and when she was unable to contain her unfair prejudices regarding his coming paternity - and it genuinely bothered her that she kept behaving like this in front of him.

She liked to think she was getting better at being professional, but perhaps because Commander Dakora had been the First Officer for the majority of her service on the Artemis, it felt natural more natural to confide her difficulties to him than most others... After all, he should know if there was a liability in his crew.

Like a ticking time bomb.

Dakora: Are you sure you're ok? ::His expression softened:: I’ll clear my schedule and we can sit here all day talking through it, if that's what it takes to help you feel supported.

Gila was shocked out of the shock of fear that the thought of black bone had brought out in her, trying to reintegrate herself into the conversation as was.

Sadar: Oh, uhh, n-no! I-It’ll be fine, it’s just... I-I realize this isn’t as uncommon as is ideal, but it still feels wrong.

The Commander didn’t seem convinced, but let it drop. Or, at least, changed tactics.

Dakora: Ok. I'll take your word for it. ::He settled his gaze on her.:: Besides, I'd be willing to bet it won't be too long before you find yourself in command, making these kinds of decisions yourself. Mark my words.

Sadar: With all due respect sir, extra pips are more trouble than they are worth.

A wry grin formed on Commander Dakora’s face in response to that.

Dakora: Maybe. Speaking of rank and privilege I do have– ::He screwed up his face in thought.:: well, I won't make it an order, but I will call it a strong suggestion for you…

oO Oh no, here comes the spiel. Oo

Sadar: ... ::slight sigh:: Yes Sir?

As though he had expected her displeasure with this turn of the conversation, the Commander’s grin turned into a mischievous smirk. As the man who had been in charge of duty rosters, Gila should’ve known he had a rather good grasp on her shore leave usage in the time she’d been serving under him.

Which was awful, frankly. Just awful.

Dakora: Actually use your shore leave. ::He waved a hand demonstratively:: Go to a beach, one of the nature preserves– feel the sand under your feet, the sun on your skin… touch a tree. It's nice every once in a while, you know?

Sadar: ::vividly displeased expression:: Y-Yes Sir... My most recent counseling session also ended up with an, uhh, ‘strong suggestion’ along those lines.

It was a bit more palatable being told by Lt. Commander Dakora to spend her shore leave in the ‘proper’ fashion than it was when being told the same by Lt. Commander Jashkaa. Perhaps it was because Commander Dakora didn’t force her to use the dreaded ‘first name basis’-practice, even if he consistently failed at offering her the same courtesy.

Small allowances went a long way!

Dakora: I plan to spend an unreasonable amount of time surfing those artificially perfect waves. If nothing else, you're welcome to join me.

Sadar: I... I might take you up on that. Th-Thank you. ::wrings her hands:: W-Well, uhh. Th-Thanks for, mhm, your counsel. I’ll have my report logged within the week.

Dakora: Response

Gila’s cheek folds trembled slightly at the insinuation, though she understood the reasoning behind it.

Sadar: N-No, I promise, I will find time to... ‘Relax’...

Dakora: Response

Sadar: Yes... I’ll... I’ll see you around, Sir.

And with that, she turned about to leave. She only hoped Lt. Commander hadn’t looked too closely on the mission call for the survey mission to the Laoi system.

The last thing Gila needed was for her superiors to take her off that mission because of some ‘enforced rest order’. That would be awful.
