((Taste of the Quadrants – Deck 229, Deep Space 224))
Their food had been ordered, drinks arrived at the table and the three women chatted each other up. Sam was enjoying herself, but it did give a small bittersweet tug at her heart. She missed her friends on Amity, but this was good too.
MacKenzie: What about you, Sam? Anything fun this shore leave? I hear Lieutenant Bergmen has something up his sleeve, but probably more suited for Ensign Cole…
Richards: ::Holding her hands up in surrender:: I am not getting wrapped up in some crazy drill ::glancing at Nat:: But that does sure sound right up your alley. ::Shaking her head and sipping her water:: I am spending this leave getting everything we can ready for the kiddos to make their appearance. It’s uh… Coming a lot quicker than I anticipated.
Her idea of getting everything ready included cribs being set up, their entire room looking– less disheveled and doing some more shopping. Which was another bit of her plan during their time on DS224.
Cole: Sounds like a stressful time, when my sibling was born, my parents fortunately had various things from when I was born.
MacKenzie: Enjoy it. Kids rarely stay that little for very long. Are you feeling ready?
Would she ever really be ready? Probably not, but she was good at pretending.
Richards: I actually have some more shopping to do for them while we are here. Word on the block is 224 has some awesome places to get baby things. ::shrugging and laughing:: They can’t just wear Hawaiian shirts and onesies with funny sayings on them. ::glancing between the two women:: If either of you are interested in joining me, I’d love some shopping buddies.
Cole: ::stifling a giggle:: Hawaiian shirts, that’s a style choice I loved as a kid. I’d be up for a shopping trip. I promised Juno some souvenirs, sounds fun.
MacKenzie shook her head as Sam made a mental note to ask Natasha who Juno was later.
MacKenzie: Sounds just like Talos…
Sam smirked and nodded in agreement. It did sound just like him. For as particularly obnoxious as he had recently been, she appreciated him and loved him for all of his weird quirks and style choices.
The holo-waiter was just arriving with their respective meals. The smell of the dishes hit her simultaneously with a growl from her stomach.
Richards: Let’s hope this place lives up to expectations. I’m starving.
Cole: It all smells really good, not sure which to dig into.
MacKenzie: That makes one of us. I haven’t had a good hasparat since we had shore leave on Bajor.
Her eyes watched intently as MacKenzie picked up a part of the food and took a sniff. She smiled and nodded. It was a good sign. Sam had a feeling that if the Captain didn’t like it, that it would somehow reflect on her. Which she knew was silly, but what was a girl to do but hope her recommendation came through.
She kept her gaze on the Captain as she stuck her fork into the salad and examined it closely.
Richards: It looks like it should. That’s a good start.
Without trying to look like an absolute pregnant piggy, Sam took a small bite of the Oskoid salad. She was lost in the taste of the dish she had been craving until Natasha pivoted the conversation to their most recent mission.
Cole: I was sorry to hear about General Kexxin, he was a good man who wanted peace. ::moment of silence:: I wonder if he thought all human women are redheads.
Everyone who had learned about the General's fate was troubled by the turn of events. He deserved better. As she thought back to their time on the planet, she remembered Nat whispering something to her. What was that nickname she had come up with for the three of them?
MacKenzie: He was ahead of his time. That planet has a lot to work through. It won’t be easy, but I’m confident they’ll achieve a lasting peace.
Sam nodded solemnly. The loss of the General was undeniably heartbreaking, but what was that dang nickname?
oO “Cheery boobs”? No Sam, that’s stupid. “Cherry boobs”? NO! It wasn’t anything about boobs… “CHERRY BOMBS”! Good job, you got there. It was painful but you got there.Oo
Richards: Yeah, hopefully Kexxin finally has some peace.
Cole: Response
MacKenzie: How is it?
Looking between MacKenzie and the food, Sam smiled.
Richards: It’s everything I have been dying for. I’m absolutely coming back here before we leave. ::tilting her head to the side:: How’s yours?
MacKenzie/Cole: Response
The table fell into a small silence of only cutlery on the dishes. Sam paced herself with her salad, not wanting to eat faster than the other two, despite the continued kicks of protest for more from the babies.
Richards: ::Looking at Nat:: We should have told Kexxin about that nickname you came up with for the three of us. ::Gesturing to herself, then to Nat and MacKenzie:: I bet he would have thought the “Cherry Bombs” was great.
