Jaran: See here? These little... clumps? ::pointing at the screen:: This is a buildup of hydroxyapatite crystals in your cartilage. Thankfully, you're here during the calcific stage, and it's a pretty easy matter of breaking them up.
Munro: Breaking up is never easy. Or so I've heard.
Ava smiled at her little joke, but Jira saw the edge to the smile.
Jaran: At least this breakup won't ask you three months later if you've found their favourite shoes yet.
Munro: So what do you need to do, doctor? I'll take one of those new synth bodies they gave Admiral Picard if you've got one of them laying around? :: she smiled :: Seriously though, I don't need to take any time off?
She was covering for her nervousness with levity, it seemed. Jira had seen that a lot. They'd performed an emergency leg amputation while the farmer cracked jokes. How little things change, regardless of where one was in the universe.
Jaran: I really can't stress enough how minor this actually is. I'd recommend taking an afternoon off to rest. Maybe give yourself a week off of strenuous activity like running.
The key to keeping a patient on board and calm was explanation and example, so Jira set to providing that. They retrieved a couple devices from a nearby cart and returned to Ava.
Jaran: This ::holding forward a long, thin device:: is an electrotripsitic probe. It will use a short, controlled burst of electrons to break up the calcium deposits. It may feel like you bumped your funny bone briefly, but some people don't feel it at all. ::Holding forward the flat device in their other hand:: This is very precise scanner that will be placed on the joint and target where to direct the electron burst. This should only take a few minutes altogether. Sound good?
Munro: Okay, let's get started then. No use waiting around.
Jaran: Wonderful! You'll be out of here before you know it. Now relax. Or try to, I guess.
Jira moved the biobed scanner back and placed the scanner on Ava's knee. Holding the probe up to the side of the joint, they turned their head slightly to look at the Commander.
Jaran: Ready for the first one?
Munro: Response
Jira thumbed the switch and applied the probe to the soft tissue around the knee. They knew it was likely to at least get some sort of reaction, so they look to Ava after each burst, ready to take a break if she needed. There was a time to be a forceful doctor, and there was a time to be a patient one. This was the latter.
Munro: Response
oO Fair enough. I can't blame her. Oo
Jaran: I understand. Let's hurry up and finish the rest, then.
Munro: Response
