(( ICU - Primary Sickbay, Deck 07, USS Artemis-A )) ((( OOC: As instructed by Cmdr. Munro in the Mini-Mission group DM, LtJG Bergmen is dropped from the mini-mission due to his currently on-going medical scene with Bancroft, and all his tags are removed from the scene. )))

It would be accurate to say that Yesfir was displeased with the current state of affairs. It had, of course, been most distressing during the entire two weeks that the Artemis senior staff had been missing, and more than once, Yesfir had remarked upon the utter stupidity of sending both the CO, XO and the rest of the senior staff to go on this errand for Starfleet Command, leaving the Artemis with none of its normal command structure.

It had been borderline impossible to get any actual work done, as it seemed that all the remaining Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs seemed to compete to either want the position of temporary CO least or compete to want it most. It had been the most stressful two weeks of Yesfir’s assignment to the Artemis, and that was some pretty staunch competition that they had managed to blow completely out of the water.

She’d been delighted- or, well, that was perhaps a bit too strong of a word. It had been an agreeable turn of events when they’d managed to catch the Karnack’s failing hailing signature and escorted the Saber class to its final destination before welcoming their senior staff back aboard. Perhaps now, things could finally return to normal.

But of course, that was not the end of it. Oh no.

Now, as it turned out, a not-insubstantial number of that senior staff had made the utterly nonsensical decision to use alien transporter technology that was actively rewriting their DNA and mutating them into... Something. Most likely these ‘Dark Things’ that her fellow doctors wouldn’t stop babbling on about. Worse. Some of that senior staff had then, after realizing how dangerous it was, chosen to do it a second time.

Commander Munro’s hands and arms were displaying abnormal growths that seemed to propagate at an alarming rate, and her bone structure was actively warping, twisting her bones into shapes and formations they were never meant to display.

If it wasn’t for her currently unconscious state, Yesfir had no doubt the First Officer would be in extreme pain. A small price to pay for such wanton idiocy, which could very well have resulted in her, and the entire Away Team’s, untimely demise, but nonetheless a price that Yesfir was determined not to continue to allow.

Lorana: Lieutenant?

Yesfir was dragged out of her observation of the patients in front of her by an unfamiliar voice. That, in itself, was no surprise, as she knew there had been a new batch of Ensigns assigned recently, but their presence in the ICU - and in the presence of patients who had been classified as very sensitive need-to-know basis - immediately set her mood.

And not to a good setting.

Meyers: Yes? I’m sorry, what are you doing in here? You need clearance to be allowed in the ICU at this time. Please leave.

The stranger was a Caitian woman, and she seemed entirely unconcerned with Yesfir’s annoyance with her presence.

Lorana: No need to declare an intruder alert. I think you'll find my paddwork all above board. I'm Luxa Lorana, I've been asked to offer some consultation :: looks to the patients :: Are these the worst affected?

Yesfir didn’t respond immediately, as she checked the PADDwork. Considering the most-used means of deception was ‘looking like you belonged’, Yesfir refused to share one ounce of information before the stranger’s story was collaborated by hard fact. Which it was, twenty seconds later, by a glaring ‘Medical Consultant’ tag and Yesfir looked back up.

Meyers: They are. Commander Munro’s Away Team went through the Callisian Transporter Network twice, which has prompted an accelerated mutation compared to the other team. The worst affected are the Commander, Lt. Commander Silveira, Lieutenant Imril, Ensign Jaran and Ensign Breys, though their mutations manifest in different ways.

Imril: Responses

Lorana: The genetic abnormalities seem to be progressing at an aggressive rate.

Yesfir nodded in agreement, just as the door opened behind her. She didn’t need to look back - she knew who the assigned junior officers to this task was, and remarked upon the rather uncommon occurrence that they chose to be on time today - but she noted the Caitian seemed excited at their appearance.

Lorana: Doctor Jaran :: nods :: and Doctor Bancroft, it's nice to meet you again.

Jaran/Bancroft: Response

Lorana: The Captain asked me to assist. For the last year I've been developing treatment for rare genetic disorders or abnormalities brought on by exposure to high levels of radiation. Which has had a certain degree of success. We were hoping that the treatment may be adapted for use with these patients :: pause :: Doctor Jaran? I was under the impression that you'd be on one of the biobeds yourself?

Yesfir tried her best to disguise her very clear opinion that that’s exactly where Ensign Jaran should be, but that she’d been pretty decidedly downvoted by other doctors higher in the hierarchy.

oO Idiots. If the Ensign ends up jeopardizing the other patients because of their mutations, who’ll tell their families? Oo

Jaran/Bancroft/Imril: Response

Yesfir crossed her arms as her toes started tapping at the floor. Reunions. She almost wanted to scoff.

Meyers: Apologies for cutting this short ::she wasn’t sorry at all:: but we must get to work. The mutations aren’t slowing down, and I don’t believe the Captain is in the market for a new First Officer yet.

Jaran/Bancroft/Imril/Lorana: Response

Meyers: Thus far, we’ve been able to establish a general progression of the mutations. The telepathic link bonding the Callisian Mutants together is the first thing to develop, based on the After-Action Reports submitted by the patients. While it is no true hivemind, it seems to have been a way to share strategy, sensations and knowledge across short distances with a smaller pack.

She looked between Ensign Jaran and Lieutenant Imril for confirmation.

Jaran/Bancroft/Imril/Lorana: Response

Meyers: The current hypothesis is that the progression of the remaining mutations - the callouses, the bone deformations and the accelerated follicle growths - is hastened by continued use of the link. Observations made by Captain MacKenzie of both Commander Munro and Ensign Breys are that they seemed affected by the link in a way that was very disruptive to their normal functioning, while Lieutenant K’Wara made no such indication of your performance during the Ship repairs, Lieutenant Imril.

Jaran/Bancroft/Imril/Lorana: Response
