(( Maintenance Observation Lounge – Deck 372, Deep Space 224 ))
MacKenzie had a habit of drowning herself in work. In many
ways, her work ethic defined who she was, from her days as a medical student
through her fellowship and days as a surgeon, and now as the commanding officer
on a starship. She was often accused of not taking advantage of shore leave as
an opportunity to get off the ship and take in new sights – something she was,
in her mind, getting better at – and so now that they were back at a place that
MacKenzie knew well, she was very much looking forward to revisiting some of
her favorite places on this side of the galaxy.
For now, though, there was still business to attend to.
There were several repairs to the Artemis that were beyond the scope of
what the engineers on board could take care of, and so they’d put in to one of
the maintenance bays at D.S. 224 to let their teams take over. And so, the
redheaded CO of the Artemis found herself in one of the maintenance
lounges for an objectionably better view of the ship. The lounge’s
floor-to-ceiling windows allowed her to see the ship in full view, up close and personal.
With her hands clasped behind her back, she couldn’t help but smile to herself
watching the workbees zip around the outer hull of the ship, still forever amazed
at the beautiful piece of construction.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see a woman in a
gold uniform approaching, a careful smile plastered to her face.
Munro: :: hesitation ::
Captain, I hope I'm not disturbing you? :: extends her arm in greeting :: Lt
Commander Ava Munro.
The woman simultaneously
handed her a PADD. MacKenzie’s gaze shifted from the woman’s face to the information
on the PADD.
MacKenzie: Ah, Commander Munro. A
pleasure.
The woman in the gold-shouldered
uniform turned to look out the window as well. It was likely her first true
look at the new ship she’d be calling home.
Munro: She’s beautiful,
Captain.
MacKenzie only briefly
looked away from the Artemis to offer a slight smile and a nod.
MacKenzie: Enjoy the view,
Commander. It’s not often we get to see her from this angle.
Munro: Response
She took a deep breath in
through her nose, held it slightly at the top, then released it equally as
slowly through her nostrils before turning to face the blond woman. There was
additional business to tend to.
MacKenzie: So, Commander. I hear
you’re to be our new first officer. Captain Niac gave you quite the
recommendation.
Munro: Response
She smiled and nodded
curtly.
MacKenzie: Tell me a little about
yourself, Commander.
Munro: Response
As the woman spoke, the
look on MacKenzie’s face slowly started to sour until finally she was waving
her hand in front of her face as though she was trying to repel a noxious odor.
MacKenzie: No, no. I’ve already
read your service record.
Munro: Response
Tag, and TBC!
