(( Captain’s Ready Room –
Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
After a few days at Deep Space 224, the crew of the Artemis had been taking advantage of their shore leave opportunity, and the Commanding Officer of the Luna-class ship was grateful for the slower pace. Since Frontier Day, things had been a whirlwind – even their last bit of shore leave on Earth after the Massacre hadn’t felt like shore leave… She’d spent most of her time doing autopsies and making calls to the families of deceased officers – hardly a way for one to spend their time off, even for someone who enjoys being a doctor as much as Addison MacKenzie. So, when the opportunity for actual shore leave presented itself, she’d made sure to avail herself of the amenities that the starbase had to offer, including some of her favorite bites in the galaxy.
With many of the crew back and forth between the Artemis and DS224, Addison enjoyed the benefit of the slower change of pace to catch up on some long-outstanding work.
It was amazing what one
could get accomplish when the universe wasn’t burning at every waking moment,
after all.
Fully ensconced in the latest edition of the Starfleet Medical Journal, she was
relieved for a break from the hefty reading when the door chime rang.
With a bottle of wine in
one hand she used her other to press the button and waited.
MacKenzie: Enter!
When the doors parted,
an unexpected face made its way through the door in the form of Sam Richards,
one of the scientists from Amity Outpost who had been deposited on the
Borg Cube they’d encountered on Frontier Day. Addison put her PADD down and offered
a friendly smile at the unforeseen visitor.
S. Richards: ::Holding up the
bottle of wine:: As promised, I brought the wine this time.
MacKenzie: As I recall, Ms.
Richards, you’re quite a long way from your corner of the galaxy, but it’s good
to see under more agreeable circumstances.
S. Richards: Thank you, for
letting me come back here for a little while. ::handing MacKenzie the bottle::
I definitely feel like I have some unfinished business to take
care of.
Addison gestured for her to have a seat while simultaneously accepting the
bottle. She held it up and examined the label as though she knew what she was
looking for (she was far better at consuming the wine than learning much that
extended beyond her preferences). Nodding satisfactorily, she set it to the
side.
MacKenzie: Now, what’s this
about unfinished business?
S. Richards: Response
MacKenzie: It was quite unexpected running into you on the Cube, but
your expertise was appreciated. I’m sure the other members of the crew feel
similarly.
S. Richards: Response
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
MacKenzie: So what are you doing on this side of the galaxy? Deep
Space 224 is hardly a destination hotspot, nevermind the Borderlands…
S. Richards: Response
