((Ground Zero, Tecra, Da’al))
Lorana: I am Ensign Luxa Lorana, new science officer assigned to the Artemis. Couldn't resist crashing the party.
The Caitian officer that had barged into their help was indeed a new ensign. Ensign Lorana here had reported in duty, been right away beamed down to a dead disaster zone, encountered hostiles, shot them and was then subjected to an experimental medical pulse. The two young officers she met in the sickbay had a bizarre introduction to the senior staff but had by now probably seen more action. All of those within, what, an hour after entering service on the Artemis? Jovenan couldn’t but consider how confusing situation their new assignees were dropped to. Then again, during her first day, she had had to take a lead of the research project on nanobot virus that had almost killed several dignitaries and had infected the entire crew. Starfleet really was a tough place for lowerdeckers, huh?
Yellir: Response
Jovenan: Well, welcome to the ship then! I’m Jovenan, but we can probably discuss more about ourselves when we get back up. ::to Yellir:: Did the device work?
Jones, studying their tricorder, replied instead.
Jones: It sure did! I have so much data here, Jo. Like ... we could write papers on this mission from almost any angle for years.
She had a deep breath. They had succeeded. Jones’ and Yellir’s machine had liberated the minds of countless individuals from the dust’s effects. They no longer needed to fear violent attacks from the Da’al nor their Betazoid superior officers. And for the first time since she first stood outside the Palace of Culture, she knew her breath was free of Da’allium.
Jovenan stepped closer to the old, ragged Da’al man that had first charged at them. The others were still discussing.
Jones: Sorry. ::holding out his hand in greeting:: I'm Ensign Hiro Jones. Medical. That was some nice shooting, Ensign! And your timing really couldn't have been better.
Lorana: Not a problem, happy to help. I'd appreciate looking over your findings, or assisting. I'm a little bit of a space rock enthusiast and I'd appreciate the chance to study the meteor rocks? That device was a thing of genius.
Yellir: Response
Jovenan crouched next to the Da’al man. Gently turning him by his side as first aid against pulse’s effects, she tried to see if he was about to wake up from his unexpected knockout.
Jovenan: Are you awake, sir? Can you hear me?
Yalavvi: ::mumbled:: My ... blueprints.
Jovenan was taken aback by these silent words, carrying more meaning than volume behind them. That’s what he had said when he had attacked them. He was still continuing his non-sensical rambling, as if the pulse had done nothing. Had they failed? Would all these Da’al soon wake up and continue their violence? She heard Jones taking a few quick steps and then saw him by her side. Ensign Lorana was backing away from the downed Da’al.
Jones: Why is he still talking about those? Sir? Why do you need those blueprints?
The man quickly opened his eyes, slightly startling Jovenan.
Yalavvi: You don't understand. I'm a very important person. I won awards.
Umm… What? It wasn’t aggression or mania speaking. It was the mind within the man, regaining control of his previously enraged body. He was… okay.
Jones: He's not violent. I think he's just normally kind of a prick ... sir.
Jovenan stood up right after Jones had. Instead, Ensign Lorana bent down to face the Da’al man closer. Jovenan watched as the fierce-looking officer looked straight into the confused old man’s eyes.
Lorana: Sir, once you're feeling better we'll help you find those blueprints. You're safe now.
Ensign Lorana placed her hand – pawn? – on the man’s shoulder and allowed him to rest against her shoulder. Jovenan smiled a bit. Maybe this new Caitian officer wasn’t as intimidating in the inside as she had mere minutes earlier been on the outside.
Lorana: That's right. Let it out.
Assured the Da’al man was save with Ensign Lorana, Jovenan turned to Lt Yellir.
Jovenan: I think we’ve made it, Lieutenant.
Yellir: Response
((OOC: Same note about backsimming as with Kris and Olivia.))
It was time for them to leave the planet, even if the departure was only for now; they would return. Jovenan gazed upon the valley created by the meteor. It was not entirely deserted anymore, as the Da’al were re-emerging from their condition. There was still much sorrow floating above the ruined city, but there was now also a sliver of hope. Hope, that one day, Tecra will be rebuilt and the people of Meranuge IV will raise from the ashes to the victorious future.
As the blue transporter light surrounded them and began to dematerialize them, a large shadow departed from the over the city, letting it bathe in the warm sunbeams. Just before being taken back to the ship, Jovenan looked up. The bright star Meranuge, sun of the Da’al, shined between the majestic rings. Flickering gold, the rings arched high above them, bringing a stark contrast to the destruction within the crater. There was much beauty, even in the valley of death.
