(( Holodeck 2 – Deck 2, USS Artemis-A ))

MacKenzie: Computer, end program.

The dusty, dirty tent quickly disappeared, replaced by the familiar black and gold grid of the holodeck. The endless screaming and sounds of explosions dissolved into silence, and it was just the two physicians left standing in the room where photons and forcefields could create the limitless ideas of one’s imagination. MacKenzie nodded to Syrex.

MacKenzie: Well, doctor, it appears you know your stuff, and you’re willing to make tough calls.

Syrex: You know, for a second there, I had completely forgotten it was all a simulation- That none of it was real.

Syrex sighed defeatedly, slapping her knees and getting up from the floor. MacKenzie resisted the urge to smirk.

MacKenzie: You don’t say?

Syrex: But I have a feeling you suspected that. Do you usually bring people in here?

MacKenzie: You mean, is this my typical way of welcoming new crew members aboard? No, not usually.

Syrex: Why me? I’m sure you don’t show this to all your new doctors, temporary or otherwise.

Addison opened her arms slightly with her palms raised to the ceiling.

MacKenzie: You said you wanted to learn, did you not?

Syrex: Response

The commanding officer of the Artemis shrugged nonchalantly. An officer didn’t typically avoid one’s shore leave on their regular post to go moonlight on another without having a particular agenda. She didn’t know what the doctor might be after, but she was certain the woman was after something, and she was looking forward to getting to the root of the matter.

MacKenzie: The Artemis has a lot to teach you… if you’re listening.

Syrex: Response

MacKenzie: I’m sure you will, Doctor Syrex. (beat) Doctor Adea can be a bit of a curmudgeon sometimes. Don’t take it personally.

Syrex: Response

Addison raised her eyebrows and lowered her gaze.

MacKenzie: And I am absolutely a curmudgeon, and you probably should take it personally.

Syrex: Response

MacKenzie’s face softened, and she offered a slight nod of her head.

MacKenzie: Welcome aboard, Doctor Syrex.

Syrex: Response (if desired)
