((USS Artemis-A, deck 8, Chief
Tactical Officer office))
Upon arriving at the CTO’s office, Lieutenant Silveira followed through with
the offer of an espresso.
Silveira: Very well, brewing it now.
Tell me Ensign, you were the one at Tactical during the battle. How did that
happen?
Cole: That is correct, the
Lieutenant Commander ::thinking:: Jovenan requested I take over tactical after
the departure of the Captain’s away team and shuttle team.
The Lieutenant set her coffee down, before he took his seat across from her.
Silveira: I know, I read the report.
::He leaned back:: You suggested an… How should I put it? ::He kept his smile,
but he wanted to see if Cole was reckless or not:: Unorthodox tactic.
Give me a run down on that ramming idea, if you please.
Cole: Thank you, Sir. ::sipping her
coffee:: My idea was to overwhelm a point on the Orion Destroyer’s shields by
overclocking ours, but instead of it being in preparation for a barrage, it
would have been a directed burst of repulsive force. Think of it like a kinetic
slap just as our shields met. Their shields likely wouldn’t have been able to
absorb that kind of reverse spike up close. Ours would have flared, theirs would
have failed.
While
Natasha described the tactic she had proposed, she was using her hands to illustrate
the concept.
Silveira: Interesting. You realize
there are a few flaws in doing that?
Cole: Absolutely Sir, especially now
that we know there was a second Destroyer that was cloaked. That would have
left us open to an attack, combined with a number of other variables that could
have changed the situation in countless ways.
Silveira: Well, you could have
chewed their shields first before ramming. If properly timed a wide phaser and
torpedoes barrage would have helped. But as they say “insight is flawless”.
What is your evaluation of your performance?
Cole: Admittedly I should have expressed
this at the time, but I had intended to fire a barrage of torpedoes just before
our shields would have collided along with all forward phaser arrays as well.
Silveira: Response
Natasha picked up the coffee and drank more than a sip this time. The Lieutenant was right, he did have some of the best coffee.
Cole: Sir, am I in trouble?
Silveira: Response
