Jashkaa: I see. Spending your shore leave doing research, are we?

Gila could’ve put her foot in her mouth, as was the ancient human proverb. She knew very well that Lt. Commander Jashkaa could turn every seemingly innocent and meaningless comment into a barbed comment, intended to make her write in soultwisting agony. Or, you know, she asked a lot of question, and Gila didn’t particularly like that. She twisted her anxiety ring before she had the chance to stop the impulse, but of course, Lt. Commander Jashkaa saw this immediately, and Gila stopped again. No reason to give the Orion Counselor even more reason to call her ‘unfit for duty’.

Sadar: I don’t- I mean, I like working. It’s really not a lot more than that.

Another note was added to the PADD in Lt. Commander Jashkaa’s lap, prompting an uneasy shifting in Gila’s body language.

Jashkaa: But you don’t enjoy relaxing?

Lt. Commander Jashkaa hit the nail on the head with that one, but Gila couldn’t very well say that, for she was certain that such a response would end with the unequivocal order for her to actually relax, and thus not go on the survey. That simply wouldn’t do.

Sadar: N-No, that’s not what I- I mean, I think I relax the best when I work. I... I don’t like not having anything to do.

Another note.

oO Why couldn’t an Engineer accidentally trigger a ship-wide EMP surge so those things were inoperable!? What could she possibly be writing? It’s not that groundbreaking that I like working! Oo

She felt unease with the entire situation spread through her, as she tried to think of a way to assuage the Lt. Commander’s incoming tirade on ‘why relaxation was important’.

Jashkaa: Well then, Gila, tell me - what’s your ideal shore leave?

Whatever Gila had anticipated the Lt. Commander to say, it was not that.

Sadar: I-Ideal shore leave?

Jashkaa: Response

She couldn’t very well respond with ‘the Artemis doing a routine science and survey run on an entirely non-hostile planet, and nothing ever going wrong’, for that didn’t sound like ‘shore leave’ to her, and thus would only further incriminate herself in the Orion’s eyes.

Instead, she put actual effort into considering what kind of shoreleave would prompt her to leave the Ship on her own volition.

A rare feat indeed.

Sadar: I, uhh... I think I’d... P-Perhaps visiting an archaeological dig site? Or a cultural festival? I... M-My sole ‘hobby’, I think, is studying other species’ cultures and histories. ::considers genuinely:: I also quite like visiting art museums. It’s an, uh, shared hobby with my nephew.

Jashkaa: Response

Sadar: ... I hadn’t considered that. ::looks down in thought:: I think... I think he would enjoy the opportunity.

Jashkaa: Response
