((Main Deflector Infrastructure - Deck 10  - USS Artemis-A))

Spot-checking the repairs made during a starship’s refit was a necessary, if rather dull, exercise in structural integrity management. One made especially crucial given the lengthy journey from the Borderlands to Ferengi space. If something was going to come rumbling apart, it would most likely do so somewhere in that trek of well over one hundred and twenty lightyears. Yes, there had been a shakedown before departing Starbase 224 months ago. And yes, this inspection was still necessary, by the reckoning of those higher up the Engineering chain.

Thus, Imril was in the middle of their fifth hour of systematically exploring the Main Deflector infrastructure. Walking through every service corridor. Crawling through every Jefferies tube. Scanning every bolt and power coupling (and a whole lot of other things) with a tricorder to see how well everything was holding up. A padd kept track of their findings, as well as those of the small team of ensigns and crewmen that they were in charge of managing through this part of the inspection. Data they’d have to double check all on their own before tabulating a report for Lt. Minthar.

Necessary, but boring. Repetitive and boring.

Fortunately, there was something a bit more lively coming up next on Imril’s schedule. Something which they could look forward to while they crouched down to get into… how many Jefferies tubes was it now?

The padd was keeping count so they didn’t have to.

((Holodeck 1 - Deck 2 - USS Artemis-A))

Imril reached the Holodeck door with several minutes left before they were meant to be there. They weren’t long in waiting for their former roommate to arrive. Imril waved to him.

Imril: Hi.

Bancroft:  Response

Imril: Is it weird that I’m not even done doing this yet, and I’m already thinking ahead to renewing my shuttlecraft license?

Bancroft:  Response

The doors opened, and the Tactical Officer who would be overseeing the exercise was standing there. Plain, gridded walls behind her.

Storm:  Good afternoon.  Come on in.

Imril nodded a hello to her and stepped into the holodeck. With three phasers on the pedestal deeper in, Imril could guess that Storm intended to have the junior officers challenge her in some way. As to what shape such an opposed test could take, Imril didn’t know Lt. Storm well enough to begin to guess.

As they had not yet been ordered to pick up a weapon yet, they did not. Even imaginary phasers needed to be treated with decorum.

Bancroft:  Response

Storm: Are you excited, nervous, terrified?  Or the very popular all of the above?

Imril supposed they leaned towards the first choice.

Imril: ::Smiling:: Don't forget, I asked you for this. Thank you, again, by the way.

Bancroft:  Response

Storm deadpanned reassurance, but with a hint of fun.

Storm:  Don’t worry.  I promise this won't hurt. Much.

Imril: Whatever’s about to happen, I expect we’ve all seen worse recently.

They were, of course, referring to the battle with a giant spider in the under-works of a giant city-ship. If nothing else, everyone could fully expect to walk out of this exercise alive and free of plasma burns.

Bancroft/Storm:  Response

The memory of the spider came with the knowledge that Imril had not been part of any after-action tactical discussions between Storm and Vitor, or Munro if she was involved. This time with Storm presented an opportunity to learn from that battle.

Imril: ::to Storm:: I may be stepping out of bounds, Sir, as I’m not in charge of this session, but I’m curious. Knowing what you know now, on the other side of the spider fight, is there anything you would have done differently? ::to Bancroft:: Or you?

Bancroft/Storm:  Response

Imril:  I wish I could have actually got a shot on the weak-spot I created. But I just couldn’t keep up with that thing’s leg. How fast it was moving. I was trained to shoot for center of mass, and that wasn’t.

Bancroft/Storm:  Response
