((Elysium, Deck 6, USS Artemis-A))
Silveira: No, no Doc… I want to ask you to make me a similar Doll, but
of my girlfriend. I was away for a some days, and I want to surprise her. I
thought a doll of herself would match perfectly with a doll… Of myself. ::He
smiled and opened his arms:: What do you say Doc?
She opened her mouth to respond before the wait staff finally caught up with Alyndra, interrupting mid conversation.
Waiter: Yes,
what can I get for you ma’am?
Syrex: Oh, Hi. Can I please get a hot chocolate, extra marshmallows?
Thanks.
The waiter nodded, heading back to the bar. Alyndra turned back towards Sil, as if nothing had happened. Still maintaining her smile.
Syrex: I say yes!
Silveira: Thank you so much. Now what do you need?
Syrex: Well, I’ll need an image, preferably a more recent one. My workshop and a replicator.
Silveira: OK, and where do you think it's possible to work?
Syrex: Well, it’ll be tricky to do that in here? Do you wanna take our drinks up to my quarters and we can work in there? Can you take drinks away from here? I gotta drink coming, so we can finish them both first if you like?
Sil smirked before nodding and
waving his arms in a relaxingly dismissive way. Alyndra smiled back at him,
tapping her fingertips on the table waiting for her hot chocolate to arrive.
Silveira: Well I am not in much of a particular hurry, lets enjoy our
drinks first, besides… ::he winked and leaned forward, reaching for his
glass.:: I have a few requests to add.
Syrex: What kind of request? Nothing too dodgy, I hope?
He laughed at that. Either
because he thought she was joking, or from nerves of being caught in public. As
he leaned back in his chair, expertly balancing his drink in one hand, shaking
the other, Alyndra got her answer.
Silveira: No, no, nothing like that. Just a big hug and a message that I
miss them, and one day I hope to visit and catch up with them. You have some of
my old friends in the Ronin.
Syrex: Aw that’s sweet of you to think of them. I miss them too. When I get
back I’ll make it a point to deliver your messages!
Waiter: Here you go Ma’am
Alyndra looked up again at the same waiter as before. He smiled, reaching out a tall glass cup full of steaming brown liquid, topped off with a foamy white froth at the top.
Syrex: Oh,
thank you! ::turns back to Sil, taking a sip of her drink:: Who’s in your
thoughts?
Silveira: First is the Captain. Niac and I served on the Excalibur
together. The other is Ana, Luxa Lorana, she served here in the Artemis. I miss
them dearly.
Syrex: Ana? I’m assuming that’s a nickname right?
Silveria: Response
Syrex: Oh well, you know I have all of my toys on a card in my quarters? I can set you up with a figurine of her? A doll of Captain Niac too.
Silveria: Response
Syrex: It’s funny you ask. I’m a paediatrician by training; the comfort of my patients is at the forefront of my mind when I’m treating someone. Children like toys, play takes you away from a world that’s often so scary, especially to someone so young. I see myself as a facilitator of play. Modelling the real world so that they can work through their trauma and perhaps distract themselves for a bit.
Silveria: Response
Syrex: No, I’m no counsellor. Dekas and Herbert are way better than I could ever be! But when people have confided in me.. I… I hope the toys have been useful. I really do.
As Alyndra spoke, she realised her tone had become more solemn and soft. Far from the laughter and the friendly chatter that the conversation began with.
