(( Alleged Monastery, Callis 1 ))
(( One week after crash ))

Captain's Log, Stardate 240301.28

It has been six and a half days since the crew of the Artemis was forced to abandon the Karnack and the crew crashed on Callis 1. Aside from the intuition of one of my Betazoid crewmembers, we have been unable to make contact with any of the other members of the crew and do not know their status. While I had hoped that Starfleet would have dispatched the Artemis to search for us by now, we have no evidence to suggest we should expect an impending rescue.

For the moment, my team has experienced relative safety and solitude in a building that I originally thought might be a monastery, but given various other facets to the building, I'm starting to wonder if it might not have been a jail or something else altogether. The creatures we encountered on the first night must live in the forest or somewhere nearby - they've paid us visits almost every night since we've been here, but don't seem to come around as much during the day. While I was out searching the edge of the forest yesterday, I finally got a good look at one of them - the massive quadruped was at least as tall, if not taller than me, seemed to be built entirely on muscle, and had incredible claws and sharp teeth.

I have no doubt they'd make a meal of us in short order if given the opportunity.

They seem to be sensitive to telepathy, though it's still not clear to what extent. I believe that our officers using telepathy likely attracted the creatures, and Lieutenants Storm and Brexis have received a subsequent warning about discontinuing their use of telepathy after I explicitly told them not to use it on our first night here.

Lieutenant Storm burnt her back badly on our first night here. I found a plant in the forest that reminded me of an aloe plant on Earth, and on the third day, I was able to create a salve that helped ease her pain and started the healing process, though without access to a dermal regenerator soon, I believe the resulting scars will likely be permanent.

Our supply of rations are critically low, and foraging efforts have only turned up several kinds of small berries and leaves. There don't seem to be many animals here that we might catch for use as a protein source - unsurprising given the apex predators that seem to lurk in the night... However we've been able to locate a nearby stream that has helped replenish our water supplies, and there's been enough small brush in the nearby forest that we've been able to sustain our fire.

We need to come up with a plan for long-term habitation in case the Artemis doesn't rescue us soon.

The commanding officer of the Artemis, on watch duty the night before, left the compound just after sunrise to make another venture into the woods. Upon her return, MacKenzie returned to the monastery with a bundled up blanket flung over her back. She'd used the garment as a makeshift napsack to help collect and carry any items she'd found purposeful while out foraging. Smiling to the others, she set the blanket down and shook out its contents: several handfuls of bright purple berries and a bunch of dark hunter-green leaves that resembled kale.

MacKenzie: Lunch is served!

She reached down, popped one of the purple berries in her mouth and chewed with delight as the acidity coated the surface of her tongue.

Brexis/Cole/Syn/Storm: Response

MacKenzie pointed to the leaves.

MacKenzie: I wonder if they'd be better if we boiled them? ...or with a little dressing, for that matter...

Brexis/Cole/Syn/Storm: Response

MacKenzie: How's your back today, Lieutenant?

Storm: Response

MacKenzie shook her head in resignation.

MacKenzie: I'm sorry there doesn't seem to be more I can do for you right now... I still haven't come across anything else that might be helpful, but the good news is there are plenty of plants I used to create the salve in the forest, so I can always make more when we run out. (beat) How is our ration supply?

Storm/Brexis/Cole/Syn: Response
