((Computer Core (Upper), Deck 5, USS Artemis-A ))
((OOC: our original scene was in the Computer Core within the ops centre so I've adjusted that but doesn't really have a bearing on the scene in any case))
She stood on the catwalk that looked down into the lower level of the computer core. She was so caught up in her own thoughts that she'd forgotten that Bergmen was there at all, so when he spoke she couldn't help but frown in annoyance and even more shock at the content of his words.
Bergmen: I heard it sounded even like a classical orchestra before it took a hit with an improvised grenade and a couple of shots…
Her eyes widened in horror. They done what? Her head flicked to the core and then back to Bergmen, who pulled his PADD close to his chest.
Bergmen: During the Frontier Day. I wasn’t on board then… :: shrugs shoulders:: But I heard a stories…
She sighed. A resignation came over her. This was The Prophets way of punishing her for some untold crime she must have committed in some parallel universe because she'd just come from a ship that showed zero regard for the structural integrity of … well anything at all. Now, it seemed to her, that she was to be provided with a whole new set of problem officers to protect the ship against.
Vailani: Don't worry Lieutenant, I understand. The Ronin … well there wasn't a day when something wasn't exploding, being set on fire or just being torn apart :: sighs :: I'm used to it.
Bergmen: They patched it up after. A lot of things onboard are still waiting to be fully repaired, systems replaced. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and we will get full dock time soon anyway, so I heard.
Vailani: We'll be busy then. Perhaps this FORT might be a good idea after all?
She focused on him. Not the type to lean into the mentoring of junior officers she prepared to challenge them as she had been and see how they step up.
Sometimes you had to defend your position and that was a skill that Bergmen would have to learn if he wanted to work with her.
He seemed to falter as his shoulder sagged.
Bergmen: So what would you like to hear about FORT? Ma’am?
Before she was able to answer an unfamiliar Tellarite, ranked at Lt Commander, approached them from seemingly nowhere.
Vel: FORT? What’s that, Bugman?
oO bugman?! Oo
She didn't care for nicknames and she cared less for nicknames that weren't welcomed by the recipient. Vailani Zoyara would never be accused of being the friendliest girl in a room but she was, often, drawn to the socially awkward types and the desire to jump to their defense was strong. Wasn't that how her friendship with Gila started on this very ship?
Vailani: :: in greeting :: Lieutenant Vailani Zoyara, and you are?
Bergmen: Response
The Tellarite shook his head and turned to her. She just had a strong feeling this wasn't going to end well. Perhaps she'd be shipped back to the Ronin before the day was out.
Vel: Nobody wants to hear that, Bugman - I’m Lieutenant Commander Glim Vel, I used to have your job. And I’m overjoyed that it’s yours now.
She nodded, she was familiar with him after all, having spent much of her time reading his reports while she traveled here. He was not what she expected but folks rarely were. Anyone that knew how to break down the operational efficiency of a Luna class starship in a concise way was someone that she was predisposed to give some leeway too.
Vailani: I enjoyed reading your report on the cross-ship integration of supplementary life support systems. It was very helpful :: to Bergmen :: Lieutenant Bergmen has been showing me around. Would you like to join us?
Bergmen/Vel: Response
Vailani: Actually he was just about to try and sell me on this idea of FORT. Weren't you, Lieutenant?
Bergmen/Vel: Response
Vailani: I'd appreciate Commander Vel’s insights :: to Vel :: If you don't mind?
Bergmen/Vel: Response
