((Elysium, Main Level, Deck 6))
Operations on a ship had turned out to be a change of pace, whether it was welcome or not Lyara had yet to decide. Because the ship was docked and going through repairs the most she would see of a helm was of the shuttles she had to memorize the controls of. This meant she had plenty of time to settle into ops and the workload of massive repairs that came with it.
Within the first hour of being on duty, she had been swarmed with PADDs of data and spreadsheets that made the Bajoran textbooks she used to read look like pamphlets. Medical needed more hypos and medicinal drugs to treat wounded members by the end of the day, science needed upgraded containment fields for specimens yesterday, engineering needed self-sealing bolts by tomorrow, and the counselors requested new magazines for the waiting room. It felt as though for every task she completed another popped its head out like a logistical hydra.
She needed a change of scenery from the cramped desk where she found herself working for hours a day and had wandered her way to the Elysium. It was a nice dining establishment, with plenty of space to dine alone, socialize with others, or in her case work away at a PADD. Lyara had planned to reach out to other officers, she even recognized a name or two on the crew rosters from the academy, but work had called her first. At least with her work, she was able to scope out the restaurant and get a much-needed deka tee.
oO Barely my first few days and I’m already drowning in work, ship life has proven interesting Oo
Lyara placed the PADD down and put her face in her hands, the stress of work had started to catch up with her. She leaned back against her booth and took a much-needed break as she finished her tea. The social atmosphere had proved calming, the work however did not. Lyara glanced around the bar and saw an all-too-familiar Kantare talking to a science and ops officer.
oO Is that? No way, it couldn’t be Oo
She watched as the woman got up and walked to the bar, confirming Lyara’s suspicions, it was her friend from the academy, Nadevia Virtavi-Yaros. Nadevia and Lyara had been close at the academy, and although Lyara wouldn’t admit it, her feelings might have been stronger then. It had been a few years since they had gotten the chance to exchange messages as Nadevia left the academy to work elsewhere and Lyara had to focus to finish her courses. However, they weren’t at the academy anymore, and Lyara had suddenly decided she was off-duty for a bit.
She put away her PADD and calmly made her way to the bar where her friend sat. As she made her way across the Elysium she felt her heart beat faster in her chest, anxious as if she wouldn’t recognize her. She pushed those thoughts aside and sat in the seat next to her, and before Lyara could get a word out she saw Nadevia turn to her, her eyes lit up in recognition.
Virtavi-Yaros: Alroyo!? Wha- ::struggles for words:: How?
Before Lyara could say anything Nadevia had moved in to embrace her. Lyara froze for a moment in shock but then returned the embrace with a slight chuckle.
Lyara: Well, the Artemis needed Operations and a Helm, and I’m trained in both. ::She shrugged and played a mock cool:: And I just so happen to be the best pilot in the Beta Quadrant.
Virtavi-Yaros: So I see! My sincerest congratulations. The Artemis is certainly blessed with good fortune to have you.
Lyara giggled and waved off the compliment as a slight blush formed, enjoying the reunion with her friend.
Lyara: Aw shucks Nadevia, we should be honored to have someone as capable as you here. ::She looked to her curiously:: On the topic of you, we should catch up! Where have you been?
She leaned against the bar while she kept her eyes on her old friend. Hopefully, she too had a free moment to catch up, maybe over dinner or another outing. Lyara always loved hearing stories from her friend, she found her posh voice enamoring.
Virtavi-Yaros: ::She flashed a brilliant smile:: Oh, I should love that! So much time has passed, I am certain that you have endless stories to tell. I must confess, I similarly have something I should like to discuss with you; a rather personal matter intrinsically linked to my presence aboard this Ship. However, for the moment- ::she looked to the bar:: Pardon me, Bartender? A glass of white sangria, please. ::looked to Alroyo with expectancy::
Lyara had been intrigued by this “personal matter” and looked to Nadevia as she wondered what that could mean. She smiled as Nadevia looked expectantly at her until she realized why she had turned to her and turned to the bartender.
Lyara: Oh! Uh… ::She thought for a moment:: I’ll do a glass of springwine for the special occasion.
She turned back to her friend as the bartender went to get their drinks.
Lyara: So, where you been? Surely you must’ve missed lil’ old me.
Virtavi-Yaros: Response
The bartender placed their drinks down on the bar in front of them. Lyara nodded to him as she picked up her glass, taking a small sip of the sweet light blue wine.
Lyara: Sounds interesting, glad to hear you’ve found something to do after you left the academy. I finished up my studies at the academy, ended up minoring in helm and majoring in ops, and joined a flight team. ::She motioned to her uniform:: Now I’m a pilot and operations. And to be honest, the red is starting to look mighty fine on me, the PADDs however, could use a little more personality.
Virtavi-Yaros: Response
Lyara nodded along as she listened to Nadevia, raising an eyebrow at the mention of the personal matter from earlier.
Lyara: ::She fidgeted with her hands:: This matter of yours… is it, personal personal?
Virtavi-Yaros: Response
