Lyara: Was it a personal problem she had with you?

Sadar: I, uhh, can’t be sure... The other Klingons were dismissive, but Archaeologist B’Equ seemed... Almost hateful. ::to Filistrien:: I’d like a background check done on her, just in case. One more in-depth than the ones you’ve already done. Is that possible?

Alroyo made a mental note to keep in check B’equ’s behavior in the shuttle.

Filistrien: It’s possible. I shall make that a priority task, Sir.

Imril: I’m not even going to try to explain her behaviour with dressy words about her culture. Some people are just jerks.

Since the Dominion War, there had always been a sense of comradery between Bajorans and Klingons due to their governments close cooperation while part of their fleet was stationed there. So she had met her fair share of Klingons and experienced their sometimes aggressive aspects. But the description of the scientist’s behavior raised some red cards in her head.

Lyara: If she’s as aggressive as she sounded, maybe there’s something more to her behavior. I’m not saying there’s a conspiracy involving the empire itself, but she might have some thoughts or beliefs here herself.

Sadar remained silent and Lyara hoped she didn’t think the Ensign meant a conspiracy involving the government. The doctors seemed like a very nervous person based off of the small amount of interactions she’s had with her.

Imril: I wonder if she’s been treating the local civilians the same way she treats Starfleet officers.

Alroyo noticed Bergmen sitting on the couch taking deep breaths, it looked as if he was going to be sick.

Filistrien: Regardless of Doctor B’Equ’s conduct, the dig will be commencing tomorrow, yes? ::to Sadar:: How should we proceed, Sir?

Sadar: The Griffin will be used to conduct a subterranean echo survey, see if we can identify how much of the structure is underground, and whether it’s something easily excavated without heavy equipment. ::to Lyara:: Ensign Lyara, you’re the pilot. The equipment itself will be operated by Archaeologist B’Equ, who will be accompanying you. ::to Filistrien:: As such, I want you in the shuttle too, Petty Officer.

Lyara: Sounds good, we’ll keep our Klingon friend in check.

She whispered a small prayer to herself that this Klingon’s bad attitude wouldn’t extend to her and the Petty Officer.

Filistrien: An indirect interrogation, Sir?

Sadar: If possible. If not, just find out how to make her, uhh... Less ‘Klingon’ until the team from the Historical Society can replace us. ::to Imril and Bergmen:: The two of you will be joining me at the dig site. We’ll be coordinating our efforts with Klingon scientists.

oO Make the Klingon less Klingon, might as well ask the Bajoran to be less Bajoran Oo

Imril: Aye, Doctor. I’ll have all of Trorin’s information reviewed by then.

Bergmen: We should arm ourselves, ma’am. The scorpionmole tunnels and probably nest are nearby. Just… to be sure. Ma’am.

Sadar: Ah, I see... ::frowns:: Y-Yes, uhh... M-Make sure to pack your phasers.

Ollie gave a nod and got up from the couch.

Lyara: The way the colonists described the scorpionmoles made them sound very dangerous. Tunnels the size of five year olds.

Imril: Whatever a scorpionmole is, the second half of that name implies that they dig lots of tunnels. Depending on where and how big those tunnels are, and the dens connected to them, the expedition could be digging into unstable ground. I’ll program the Griffin’s scanners to try to identify and map out any subterranean hollows based on airflow and missing sub-strata. But it may take one of us looking over the data to confirm anything.

Bergmen: Good idea.

Lyara: Thankfully we’ll have a team dedicated to that. We can try to map out any burrows we find underground.

Sadar/Filistrien: Response

Imril: ::To Bergman/Lyara/Filistraen:: Is there anybody we need to be concerned about making things more difficult on the colony's end? I can report that Administrator Baum looks to be plenty annoyed with the Klingons, but is holding it together for the sake of putting all of this behind him as soon as possible.

Before Lyara could answer the question Bergmen, visibly in a distressed manner, spoke.

Bergmen: Could you please excuse me for a moment?

Sadar: Response

He wasted no time and immediately hurried towards the restroom. Lyara failed at hiding her sigh of disappointment once she realized he was choosing now to relieve himself from duty. Ignoring his absence, Lyara resumed the briefing.

Lyara: There was no ill will between the colonists and the Klingons when we interacted with them. If they’ve interacted at all.

Sadar/Filistrien: Response

The door closed behind Bergmen and Alroyo pondered ordering a Level 1 Biohazard from operations for when the Ensign was done.

Imril: We've spent all this time working out how we're going to help the Klingons do their job. But might there be something that the colony needs help with that we could do for them? Anything that doesn't involve the dig-site or the Klingons, I mean? A charitable gesture on our part may help cool things down if they do get heated.

Sadar/Filistrien: Response

It seemed Ollie had finished his business and exited the bathroom.

Bergmen: I'm fine, but I'll wait for the ventilation to clean the air. The Klingon cuisine avenged.

Alroyo shot a stern look then put her head in hands out of embarrassment. He could have at least tried to be discreet about it.

Sadar: Response

Bergmen nodded then took a seat on the sofa. Lyara scooted over an inch or two in response, and probably looked dramatic in the process.

Bergmen: Did I miss something important?

Lyara looked up to Bergmen and pondered saying something but decided it was best she kept her mouth shut.

Imril/Filistrien: Response

Bergmen: ::to Sadar:: Will we be on the dig site only as ground and diplomatic support, or are we expected to go underground with the archaeology team?

Sadar: Response

Bergmen: ::to Imril:: We should add more water to our kit, as midday can be quite hot.

Imril: Response

Alroyo turned to the Intelligence Officer.

Lyara: Filistrien, when you do a background check can you send any information you find?

Filistrien: Response

She gave him a slight nod.

Lyara: Sounds good, I recommend you brush up on your Klingon.
