(( Main Shuttlebay - Deck 11, USS Artemis-A ))

Bergmen: Welcome to Artemis Operations. Hope you will enjoy your stay.

Tamio straightened his back and raised his eyebrows. He didn’t seem to fully appreciate the hit-or-miss humor that Ollie was directing at him, but young JG found it humorously interesting that, despite being completely at ease, the lieutenant was still a head shorter than he was.

K’Wara: Pleasure to meet you, Olliver. ::smiles and offers their hand for a handshake:: Tamio’ll do, unless we’re in front of the Captain. ::moment of thought:: Or the Chief. I’ve heard she can be a stickler for things like that.

Bergmen's thoughts revolved as he tried to decode the lieutenant's words in relation to his earlier reaction. It seemed to him that the lieutenant was trying to get back at him, and Ollie was able to understand and respect that. So he accepted the offered hand, smiled, and shook hands with the lieutenant.

Bergmen: Understood, Tamio. ::pause:: I assume you've already heard about our chief's approach, seen our airlocks

K’Wara: No, only word of mouth. Is it wrong?

Bergmen tilted his head and narrowed his eyes at the lieutenant.

Bergmen: No, just… ::shrugs his shoulders:: It slightly transcends factual representation with each person in those chinese whispers, and I'm not sure what you heard already… ::pause:: By my account, they are thoroughly professional, both. And expect the same level of professionalism from each of us.

Tamio accessed the Kerynitis’ computer banks to update the maintenance logs while still listening to Bergmen's words.

K’Wara: ::slight smirk:: Interesting. oO I look forward to meeting her. Oo How long have you been with the Artemis, Olliver?

Bergmen: Soon to be the whole year. In three weeks, I think.

Suddenly, a voice emerged from behind Bergmen, catching JG off guard.

Vailani: If you wanted to know more about me, maybe the more effective manner would be to come directly to the source, Lieutenant K'Wara?

Ollie immediately straightened his back, stood at attention, and stepped aside.

Bergmen: Lieutenant K’Wara, Lieutenant Vailani, our Chief of Operations, sir. ::glance at Vailani and half-nods:: Ma’am.

K'Wara: Response

Vailani: Yes, I am she :: consults her PADD :: I trust that the idle chit chat means the inspection of the shuttle has been completed?

Bergmen pretended as if he were not in the room, blending into the shuttle wall.

Bergmen: Yes ma’am, A-check maintenance did not uncover any problems with the shuttle or its systems.

K'Wara: Response

Vailani: :: nods :: Well done. Both of you :: to K'Wara :: Next time we can do without the gossiping. :: taps Combadge :: =/\= Ensign Meris, this is Lieutenant Vailani, please report to the Main Shuttlebay =/\=

They received a response from the ensign sooner than expected.

Meris: =/\= Understood, Lieutenant. May I inquire as the purpose of this meeting? =/\=

Vailani: =/\= We have a shuttle to perform a test flight on =/\=

It was refreshing to notice the ensign's tone had shifted to a more enthusiastic one.

Meris: =/\= Aye sir. I will be there within ten minutes. =/\=

Channel closed, and the shuttle plunged into silence again. JG Bergmen looked at Lt. Vailani and then at Lt. K'Wara.

Bergmen: Coffee, tea… anything… anyone?

Vailani/K’Wara: Response?

((( 6 minutes later )))

Ollie leaned against the shuttle, watching the screen of his PADD and processing the latest reports and circulars that separated him from the end of his shift. As footsteps approached in the nearby area, JG looked up at Ensign Meris, smiled, and nodded slightly to welcome them to the party.

Ensign then gazed from Ollie to Tamio for a moment, and from him to Lieutenant Vailani.

Meris: Lieutenant, a pleasure to meet you. ::nodding:: I understand I've been asked to report here to test a shuttle... however, if you might allow me a moment, I'd like to first present you with this…

Bergmen thought for a moment about whom Meris was referring to, but when the ensign handed the data PADD to the OPS chief, it became clear which lieutenant was meant.

Vailani: Response

Meris: It is the assignment that Lieutenant K’Wara passed on to me yesterday during Alpha shift. The Lieutenant indicated you wanted experienced pilots to evaluate the post-maintenance requests for testing from the Deep Space 224 engineers. I have reviewed those requests and determined that 78% can be satisfied without delaying our departure from Deep Space 224 or impacting our subsequent mission timeline.

Ollie winked at Tamio and let out a chuckle.

oO So that's how you divide and conquer... Oo

Meris: I have fully annotated and collated my findings, along with an in-depth breakdown of how I reached each conclusion. I believe you will find the analysis thorough and complete.

JG folded his arms across his chest, still holding his PADD, and glanced at the ensign, waiting to see what else they wanted to contribute to their full duty report.

Meris: And... if I may say so, Lieutenant, I am honored you would place this level of trust in a newly assigned pilot before even meeting me. I will work to earn that trust, and I will not allow the faith you have shown in me to be misplaced. ::with a resolute nod of the head::

Vailani: Response

K’Wara: Response

Bergmen pivoted sharply to face Lieutenant Vailani.

Bergmen: I will fill our flight plan with Flight Ops and log my preflight checklist. ::resolute nod::

Vailani: Response

K’Wara/Meris: Response

JG Bergmen turned around and walked to flight operations to submit the preflight checklist and flight plan. He quickly ran up the stairs to the air traffic control room and returned less than two minutes later with an additional PADD, which he handed to Meris.

Bergmen: The flight plan for the test flight has been submitted and approved. The shuttle was fully refueled yesterday after returning to the dock, and my preflight visual and system inspection did not find any problems to report, so you can do yours. Traffic is clean. We can line up for departure against report whenever you are ready in the next thirty, Ensign.

Meris: Response

Ollie nodded and turned and faced Vailani and K’Wara.

Bergmen: Traffic Control informed me that our departure window is in the next thirty minutes; just report for line-up and go. Traffic clear during. After that, they have medprio two in and two out; those would push us to be fifth in line to wait as lowprio flyop, ma’am. ::to K’Wara:: Sir.

K’Wara/Meris: Response
