((Cave, Rakantha Province, Bajor))

With Renirs and Gnai both trapped inside of the cave thanks to an unknown amount of mines scattered about, the team that weren’t at risk of blowing up had made the decision to beam them out to the shuttle. They’d need to place some transport boosters inside of the cave before they could make that happen though. That meant navigating the literal minefield that was in front of them to retrieve both Gnai and Renirs.

Jaseb decided to be the one to head back to the shuttle, and he returned rather quickly with the boosters. With the boosters in hand, they were ready to begin the rescue plan.

Chevalier: Savel? We have continuous connection to the shuttle. It works.

Savel: Very well, let us begin.

It didn’t take long for the first problem to pop up. A few steps into their journey through the cave, Jaseb’s footstep was accompanied with a click. Savel’s pointed ears perked right up to the noise but he wasn’t the first one to call out the warning. Jaseb luckily had understood what the noise meant.

Chevalier: Wait! Stay back!

Savel: I will stay back, as long as you stay still Jaseb. Any change in pressure could cause the device to be triggered.

Neither one of them was exactly in a good spot in relation to that mine, so Savel didn’t want it going off. Both out of a sense of self-preservation and a desire not to see anyone else get hurt.

Chevalier: ::breathing raggedly:: Savel, you need to continue. I’m okay. I think as long as I keep my feet on it, it will not explode. Go and save Gnai and Renirs. I will analyze that IED and the lieutenant will call support from Artemis...and they will get me out. Okay, Savel? Go!

Gnai: What's going on? Did Ensign Chevalier step on a mine?

Unfortunately, Gnai’s assumption was spot on. The good news was that Jaseb didn’t step off of the mine. That would have been a whole other conundrum.

Jovenan: What happened? Report!

Chevalier: Laid mines two. Starfleet zero. Good news - the ground-penetrating scans worked, and we marked a safe path through the IEDs on our way to my position. Bad news - I tripped and accidentally stepped on one of them. ::looks on Savel:: Savel has boosters and will continue over on Gnai's and Renirs' position.

A good summation from a man that was standing on top of high explosives.

Savel: Ensign Jaseb is correct. He is unable to move from his current position without causing the explosive device to detonate. It seems I am to continue without him for the moment.

Gnai: Be careful, Ensign Savel!

Jovenan: Savel, can you complete the transporter booster perimeter alone?

The reminder of the importance of caution in a minefield and the question were both met with a single affirmative nod.

Savel: I believe so, Lieutenant. oOI also believe we have no other choice.Oo And I shall also be careful, Ensign Gnai.

((OOC: Cutting out the Gnai/Renirs convo, even though Vulcan hear good and all that.))

Gnai: ::louder, to Lt. Jovenan:: Lieutenant, is there anything anomalous in the vicinity of this tricorder?

Jovenan: Yes! It’s not as close as Savel’s, but if you could keep it pointed just ahead of his route, I can try triangulating the mines with that data. Savel, I’m sending you as much as I can!

The data started to come through to Savel’s tricorder. That was his only way of being able to navigate the cave with any amount of safety. The already rapid heart rate of the Vulcan was increased ever so slightly as a response to the situation he found himself in.

Savel: Thank you, Lieutenant. I should be able to avoid the mines with some certainty now.

Jovenan: Okay, once the transporter amplifiers are in place, I’ll transport you to the shuttle, where you will tend to Renirs wounds and contact the Artemis and the Bajoran authorities. Chevalier, um, you’re not quite inside the perimeter, so try to stand by. I’ll help you once the others are safely out. Try to come with something we can do to prevent the mine from going off.

Savel: I will have the boosters in place shortly. As soon as we get to the shuttle, I will request assistance.

All easier said than done while walking through an active minefield inside of a dark cave.

Gnai: Response

Renirs: ::quietly:: I’m just gonna lie here for a moment…

Chevalier: Understood, Lieutenant. Staying still obediently on mine. No explosion, no spasm. Think about a solution. Got it. Save Gnai and Renirs; I'll wait!

With the data coming in from Jovenan’s PADD, Savel was able to safely navigate the maze of mines to the designated point for the transporter boosters. When he was finished, they were arranged in a triangular shape with Renirs and Gnai at its center. Since he was to accompany them, he joined them at the center and briefly glanced over their condition. Gnai seemed fine, all things considered, but Renirs was a different story.

Chevalier: ::sighs:: =/\= Yeah… You are right. I miss you… =/\=

Jovenan: Everyone ready? Energizing.

((Shuttle Kerynitis, Rakantha Province, Bajor))

Just after Jovenan activated the transporters, the trio was taken from the cave and brought back to the shuttle. Renirs was the first among them to speak whenever they rematerialized on the shuttle’s transporter pad.

Renirs: Huh? What happened?

Savel: We are back on the shuttle, Crewman. You are now safe.

Gnai: Response

As they moved from the transporter pad, Savel got a better look at just how badly Renirs had been injured. The lower half of her uniform had been ripped to shreds, exposing the wounds to her legs. From her thighs down she suffered from what looked to be several lacerations and burns.

Renirs: Um, hey, jelly. I don’t think I feel so good…

Savel: ::to Gnai:: We should move her to one of the bunks. If you will assess her condition with the tricorder, I will provide what medical assistance I can.

Gnai: Response

Savel wasn’t really capable of anything beyond emergency first aid, but he could at least hope to stabilize Renir’s condition before higher medical intervention could be found. He helped to get her onto one of the bunks, where she would hopefully be more comfortable than she was on the floor of the transporter pad.

Savel: ::to Renirs:: Please, do not attempt to move. You may cause yourself further injury. ::turning to Gnai:: I will send a message to the Artemis and request assistance from Bajoran authorities as well.

Gnai/Renirs: Response

With Gnai left to attend to Renirs as best as it could, Savel went to the communication console in the cockpit of the shuttle. He first opened a channel to the Artemis, since they’d be the furthest away.

Savel: =/\= Kerynitis to Artemis. Our team has suffered a casualty during our training exercise. Crewman Renirs has sustained injuries to her legs following the accidental activation of a mine. We are attempting to stabilize her condition on the shuttle, I believe we will be successful but your assistance is required. We also require additional personnel to help extract Ensign Chevalier, who has stepped onto a pressure plate activated explosive device. He is unable to move without triggering the explosive. I am sending you our exact landing location and the data we have recovered about the cave. Kerynitis out. =/\=

With the message sent off to the Artemis, Savel opened a channel on a Bajoran emergency frequency. He gave them a similar rundown of the situation before he stood from the console and went back into the room with Gnai and Renirs.

Savel: What have you learned about her current condition, Ensign Gnai?

Gnai/Renirs: Response
