((Arboretum - Deep Space 9))
The once-peaceful stroll through the arboretum of DS9 was violently interrupted by a paint-covered Vedek, rattling around a painting that Toto had added his own creative spin to. It seemed he was an unappreciated artistic genius, as the Vedek nearly threw the piece in Genkos’ face, blaming him for not controlling his pet.
Ornery Vedek: You! Keep better control of your beast! ::shaking the painting harder:: It’s gone and ruined this canvas, and jumped all over me. Look! ::grasping the side of his robes with his other hand to shake them and draw attention to the mess Toto had made with his paints::
Genkos appeared to surrender, raising the hand that wasn’t resting on his cane.
Adea: My sincerest apologies, sir. I -
Genkos’ appeal to the Vedek had barely left his lips before the man interrupted him, still as angry as before. Gnai quickly motioned Toto behind it, and he follow diligently.
Ornery Vedek: Keep your dog under control, or don’t bring it here. ::jabbing a finger at Genkos’ chest:: If I see it running around again, I shall call the constabulary. And you’ll be thrown out.
He finished his threat with a huff. Starfleet officers, trampling around in his arboretum, with their dogs and little concern for the peace and tranquility of an old Vedek! The nerve of some people… Genkos turned back to Gnai and Toto and kneeled down.
Adea: Come on boy, let’s get you cleaned up. ::he looked over at Gnai:: ~ I am so sorry, Gnai, to cut short our walk. I was so enjoying it. ~
Gnai: ~ It’s fine. I ::partial:: should probably be getting back to the ship, and back to my ::partial:: duties. ~
Genkos called Toto to heel and started to walk towards the entrance of the arboretum, leaving behind the ornery Vedek who glared at their backs and made sure to watch as they exited. Gnai followed the pair, lightly frazzled by the confrontation at the end, but as it reflected on their talks, it felt less stressed about its posting here. It appreciated getting to express itself telepathically, rather than through the clunkier Federation standard that it had learned, forced through the speakers of its suit. Genkos didn’t fully understand it, but he was trying, it could tell.
Adea: Come on you - a bath will be punishment enough for you.
Gnai: ~ Thank you for the prescription of relaxation, Genkos. ~ ::to Toto:: And it was nice to meet you.
It was certainly interesting, that much Gnai could say.
Adea: ~ Response ~
Gnai: ~ Perhaps you would like to do this again, next shore leave? Depending on where the Artemis ends up. ~
Wandering around and hearing stories of the past was a nice analog to what it had spent much of its time relaxing on Galador II doing - floating around to watch the lights flicker across the rest of the Galadorans, telling stories about the days long past, and Galadorans who had been dead for centuries.
Adea: ~ Response ~
Gnai: ~ See you on the Artemis. ~ ::to Toto:: Goodbye.
With a final bob in its tank, Gnai left the arboretum glowing lightly with quiet satisfaction. This had been a good distraction from the previous mission. It had been wrong to dread stepping into sickbay the first day of shore leave.
End Scene for Gnai :)
