(( Hydroponics Bay - Deck 9, USS Artemis-A ))

Tamio wondered if every other Chief of Operations was like this. They tried to imagine Commander Jo Marshall or Ava, in her previous state of employ, hounding Ensigns throughout the Ship decks to force them onto shore leave. Was this normal in modern Starfleet? Were they out of touch? The horror of the notion was so grand, Tamio immediately dismissed it.

No, surely not. If other Chief of Operations didn’t do this, then it was simply because Tamio cared more. Obviously. Certainly cared more about not trapping themself on a ship full of workaholics, this much was true, so once they found out that their carefully aligned duty rosters ensuring ample downtime for every single crewmember had been unceremoniously tampered with.

By Ensign D’tin Breys.

The gall.

Alas, after their brief dalliance with escorting Gavrin to his first meeting with Captain MacKenzie, Tamio couldn’t very well do yet another errand on the same duty shift - lest they tempt the ire of their very capable support staff - so it was after the end of their shift that they ventured to the Hydroponics Bay to rescue D’tin from herself.

K’Wara: Ensign D’tin Breys, what do you have to say for yourself?

Tamio crossed their arms in front of their chest, standing with an expectant look on their finally done up face. They were certain they in no way resembled a stern senior officer with their gold-flecked pompadour and polo shirt/leather shorts combo, but they banked on their narrow felinoid eyes doing the main brunt of the intimidation work for them.

Breys: Response

Tamio waved a hand around them, gesturing to D’tin’s (admittedly) fantastic area of employ. Tamio was in no way, shape or form a scientist, but even they had to admit that being surrounded by greenery every second of the day was an aesthetic worth chasing. Even if the latent moisture would be murder on their hair.

K’Wara: I’m talking about why you’re still working. Don’t tell me you plan on spending the entire shore leave in Hydroponics?

Breys: Response

K’Wara: D’tin, we’re in orbit of the only leisure planet in the Borderlands of positive repute, with nary a pirate or covert infiltrator in sight! Do you have any idea how rare that is?

Breys: Response
